Dear Upward families,
We know you are anxious to play flag football this fall, and so are we. We have heard from quite a few of you asking about the season, so I wanted to pass along some information.
Unfortunately, we do not yet have a definitive answer about whether we will be able to play at the school this season, but here is what we do know:
Upward submitted a Covid-19 modification plan to the school about 10 days ago, and followed up with them last week. Our sense is that they are waiting on further guidance from the Governor’s office and/or the PIAA before granting approval for any rentals.
Our plan calls for a number of modifications, including:
- a cap on the number of players we will be able to accommodate this season.
- playing fewer games on the turf at one time
- adding 30 minutes of buffer between games to allow for less congested entry and exit
- restrictions on fan access to the field, and possibly the concession stand as well
- The plan initially called for a full season of eight games, but that looks increasingly unlikely. It is probable that our season, as well as the registration period, will be compressed.
What this means is that, if and when we do get the green light to move forward, things are going to happen fast. You will need to stay tuned and look for our emails!
It’s possible the school will ask us to make further changes to our modification plan. Regardless, we will make the plan available to you prior to launching registration so that you can decide whether you and your children want to participate this season.
We apologize this has taken so long. This is not the way we prefer to operate, but it is the way it must be for this season.
