Just a quick note to let you know that we're bringing new flats up to our sale area at the North Plain Farm Store for fall harvests. We have starts for beets, scallions, beans, lettuces, cilantro, dill, zukes/cukes/squash (nope, not too late!), kale, swiss chard... and we'll be adding spinach, peas, baby bok, collards and more in the coming weeks.
We also set up a half-price table for the gentle giants who still have lots to give if they get in the ground right now! :) I'll be adding to that table every few days, so stop on by and see what's new!
I don't know about you, but the idea of fall is a bit rattling right now--so much is troubling and so much is up in the air. I have been growing food for fifteen years but have never taken more solace in simply staring at my plants and marveling at the march of mother nature.
Thanks for sharing this summer's journey with us, and happy harvesting!
--Laura & Sophie
PS About the fall and the frost--we often get a cold snap in early- or mid-September, followed by a delicious four or more weeks of growing weather. If you cover up your frost tender stuff on that one cold night, you'll likely be harvesting through October. And the kale will feed you until you get sick of it in December! :)
