President's Pen

Dear Members,

As we approach August, I know most of you are longing for the days when we can come together again in person and connect in a social setting without the fear of COVID-19.  I am optimistic that we will find away to connect again and continue to explore the policies and issues that are important to our organization.  Some aspects of our community will be forever changed but some will remain the same.

Since 2014, the WPF has organized an annual symposium, but this year we have adapted and will host a virtual symposium.  The current COVID-19 crisis has put healthcare issues front and center. This year, the Women’s Policy Forum Foundation 7th Annual Emerging Issues Symposium, is virtually scheduled for Friday, October 23, 2020 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The symposium will focus on highlighting the future of healthcare and increasing the awareness of initiatives and policies affecting women in our communities.

This years’ symposium theme is The Changing FACE of Healthcare and will present information that generates conversation in areas of:
Facts and Disparities
Access to Healthcare
Consumers & Providers
Education & Literacy

Our August 12 monthly policy program will also be hosted through ZOOM and the speaker will be Faith N. Castillo, Election Protection Legal Fellow, Texas Civil Rights Project, who will address election security.

Our monthly News & Networking will reconvene in August with the leadership of Dana Burghdoff for a conversation via Zoom.  Each month Dana hosts the event to talk about time sensitive topics that touch our lives and provide opportunities for us to learn from one another.

When the world seems so chaotic, there is comfort in knowing that, as Tarrant County Women, we are strong and will find a way to connect from a “social distance” and still be together.  I am grateful for this opportunity to chair the Women's Policy Forum.  Looking forward to seeing you in person soon!

Linda

She graduated with a BA in Communication from St. Edward’s University and SMU Dedman School of law. Although she is the first in her family to enter the legal profession, there is a Judge in her family – a French bulldog who follows her everywhere.
