Vale Fr Terry Kelly SJ

Please pray for Fr Terry Kelly SJ, who passed away on Friday 3 July 2020 at Nazareth House in Melbourne aged 85 years. Fr Kelly entered the Jesuits on 1 February 1954, he was ordained to the priesthood on 9 December 1967 and took his first vows on 16 August 1977.  His funeral was held at the Immaculate Conception Church, Hawthorn, Victoria. We were blessed to have Fr Kelly at Saint Ignatius’ College for 41 years. He is fondly remembered by our community as priest, teacher, scientist, philosopher, colleague and friend.

Wolves in Action

Last month, a group of young Old Ignatians embarked on the first of many ‘Wolves in Action’ retreats.This young leadership group was formed earlier this year, as a way to reconnect, and provides an opportunity for reflection and to develop friendships and spirituality with like-minded peers.

The Wolves are out and about

Join The Fat Fork and the Old Ignatians' Association as they join forces to feed the masses at Sport on Saturday, 8 August at the Senior School. Ready to bounce back

Old Ignatian, Tom Melville (Class of 1981, pictured right) who is a registered patent and trade marks attorney and Managing Partner at Madderns, believes our state’s economy can bounce back after the pandemic. Madderns is seeing a lot of activity with start ups and increased interest in local manufacturing.

A heartwarming rendition

Congratulations to our very talented Old Ignatian, Josh Belperio (Class of 2012) who assisted Bedford Group in producing this heartwarming rendition of 'This is Me' from The Greatest Showman. Click here to watch the video.

Bake Sale proceeds

Last week, Lydia Williams (Class of 1987) a member of the P&F Committee, presented the Junior School Sports Department (Rocco Canino & Lachlan Bartlett) with a cheque for $1756 which was raised at the Athletics Day Bake Stall earlier this year. A BIG thank you to the volunteers on the day, the bakers who donated their time and talents and most importantly the students and parents for buying the treats!

New role for Le Mire

Congratulations to Old Ignatian, David Le Mire (Class of 1987, pictured left) who has been appointed the new joint CEO of Adelaide Hills winery, Shaw + Smith. David, who will be sharing the role with chief winemaker Adam Wadewitz, holds a Master of Wine qualification and was the sales and marketing specialist for the brand before the promotion. David also co-owns Mother Vine, a very popular East End wine bar (see below). After a challenging year, the duo are excited about their venture ahead.  Click here to read more.

SPOTTED in The Advertiser's SA Weekend recently, Mother Vine. This stylish wine bar is owned by Old Ignatians, David Le Mire (Class of 1987) and Frank Hannon-Tan (Class of 1992) together with their business partners. Do yourself a favour and head down for some tasty share plates and a glass or two from their extensive wine list. Lunch Fri-Sat and Dinner Tues- Sun.

Nicole back in Adelaide

SPOTTED in the June edition of SALIFE magazine, Old Ignatian and basketball professional, Nicole Romeo (Class of 2007). Nicole reflects on how she navigated through the COVID period while being quarantined in the historic Sicilian town of Ragusa. Nicole luckily made it home to her family in Athelstone but is keen to get back on the court to chase down the Italian championship once again.

Meet the Mentors:

Richard Scollin, Class of 1979

Richard recently retired from State Government after 30+ years spent managing government initiatives designed to help people find employment. He now works part time supporting people with intellectual disability to make better connections within the community.

Richard is one of five brothers who attended the College. Since leaving school in 1979 he has been actively engaged in the football and cricket clubs, is a past Committee Member of the Old Ignatian's Association and now is a Mentor in the Old Ignatian Mentoring Program and a Member of the Foundation Board.
“The College had a profound impact on my professional and personal life and I am keen to be able to give back in some way. I recognise that in order to provide excellent standards of education to future generations the College must be able to continue to develop and grow the facilities offered at the College.”
