Based on the success we had with home-schooling during lockdown, Mam Khanyi determined that going forward, this was the best route to keep the girls safe while advancing their education. Our Home-schooling campaign began with the aim of acquiring some computers. We had an incredible response …
On June 22
nd, Mam was interviewed on Kaya FM 95.9 Breakfast (
you can listen by clicking here) and her words inspired people to send donations to Home of Hope. She was also interviewed on Radio 702 by Joanne Joseph, and that appeal motivated a listener to donate two laptops! (
you can listen by clicking here) Then, an article was published in the
Star newspaper (
here) and it too resulted in support from the public - individuals donated new and used desktops, laptops and tablets. We are deeply grateful and touched by this significant outpouring of support.
But there is more… a number of donors came through for us, we can’t exhaust the list but just to name a few: ABSA bank, Bureau Veritas, Price Waterhouse, Tina Sefothlelo and many more friends that came to our aid.
Note: we take responsibility to ensure that each device is dedicated solely for the individual child’s use as an essential educational tool for home-schooling.
When the campaign started none of us expected that not only would we get sufficient computers for all our children but even enough to enable children outside the homes (those who are in our Outreach Programme) to do their schoolwork also. We are absolutely thrilled that the benefit of our campaign is more widely spread than we could have hoped. What a result!
We also want to say THANK YOU to the team of volunteers who jumped in and made all of this happen. You know who you are – thank you for being a huge blessing to us!
Making us proud and setting the example for little sisters
One of our in-house University students is studying education with Embury Institute for Higher Education and she is now in her 3rd year, she put the work in and really got the results - out of three modules she got two distinctions! The future is yours, girl!
PMI Partnership
In May 2020, the Project Management Institute South Africa Chapter adopted Home of Hope for Girls as their social impact project. Special thanks to the PMI Education Foundation volunteers who already donated books for the library and who facilitated the ABSA donation.
Food
We would like to thank those who have contributed towards our food needs in the home. We are glad to say since lockdown till now we have not had one night that we slept hungry. There are individuals and companies sending us groceries, sandwiches, and some contributions towards buying food.
And lastly, we are grateful for health
All the girls are well and strong. Everyone is following the best-practice for hygiene and safety. We are staying positive!
That’s it from us for now, please stay safe and well. As we are autonomous, we don’t have government funding, we are running full-time residential care for almost 80 girls, and without you we could not survive. We always need the things below, and so, whatever you can spare is important to us.
- Pre-paid electricity
- Groceries and household goods
- Financial support and sponsorship for education and training of individual girls
- Fuel for the outreach team’s bakkie
- Stipend & salaries for our committed staff and caregivers. Without them the home wouldn’t be still standing.
