The Madison Free Clinic has been located for many years at 410 N. Main Street but was recently told the County’s plans for the building that housed the clinic did not include keeping the clinic in that location.

“Of course, we wanted to stay in the location but sometimes when one door closes you find a door to a better opportunity,” Executive Director Brenda Clements explained.

“Our new space, generously rented to us from Montague Miller, was created just for us. It is a little smaller but has everything we need. We also are close to the pharmacy and we like the idea of being downtown in the heart of Madison,” Clements added.

The new location at 525 N. Main Street has a rear entrance that is accessed via an alley beside the building.

Some changes in services are being offered as well. The clinic now has a Nurse Practitioner, Kimberly Sargent, who sees patients at the clinic on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. by appointment.

“We wanted to make sure our patients who find traveling outside the County a hardship could still receive quality care,” Clements said.

Sargent has been doing telemedicine with clinic patients for several months but will now see patients in the clinic.

“I have enjoyed working with the clinic patients via telemedicine and am excited to have an opportunity to provide hands-on care at the clinic,” Sargent said. Dr. Eve Bargmann is still seeing patients on Thursday evening by appointment at the clinic and Wellspring in Culpeper and Martha Jefferson Sentara in Ruckersville will continue to see their Free Clinic patients. The clinic also offers limited dental and vision services to uninsured residents of Madison County. “The Saturday appointments with Kimberly Sargent just give us a greater capacity to take care of our patients,” Clements said.

In response to the COVID19 pandemic, the Madison Free Clinic has developed an online method for patients to sign up and renew their membership. For those who do not like doing things via the internet, the clinic still will do sign-ups and renewal in person at the clinic on Tuesdays 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., Wednesdays 9 a.m. to noon and Thursdays from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

“We do require that you call us from the parking lot so we limit the people in the building. If you do not have a mask, we will provide one,” Clements explained. The Clinic does offer COVID19 testing to uninsured residents of Madison County who meet the Virginia Department of Health’s guidelines for testing.

“We can come right out to your car and administer the test. This must be done by appointment but we are here to help,” Clements said.

The Madison Free Clinic will also be offering flu shots again this year and will announce when they receive the vaccines.
