UNCTAD Update: Coronavirus Pandemic (20 - 24 July 2020)
This week an UNCTAD report identified the environmental costs associated with the growth in electric car sales, especially in developing countries where minerals for the car batteries are mined.
On the commentary front, our Secretary-General, Dr. Mukhisa Kituyi, and our new special adviser for the blue economy, Dona Bertarelli map out the reasons why we need to focus on an urgent blue recovery plan in the post COVID-19 context.
Our New York office head, Chantal-Line Carpenter and Katrin Kuhlmann of Georgetown Law School also outline how trade policy can ensure inclusive prosperity in wake of COVID-19 in an opinion piece on the topic.

Call for case studies on initiatives that enhance the livelihoods of small-scale food producer youth under a changing climate

As part of FAO’s "Boosting Koronivia" project supporting the negotiation process under the Koronivia Joint Work on Agriculture, FAO is planning to publish a collection of case studies to showcase proactive solutions taken to support and strengthen the livelihoods of small-scale food producer youth under a changing climate. These include sustainable practices and measures that create or contribute to the social, economic and environmental stability of youth involved in small-scale food production, while facing the impacts of climate change.

You can contribute to this publication by writing a case study (max. 4 pages) about your initiative on one of the following themes:
  • Capacity building and education
  • Access to land and ecosystem services
  • Engagement in decision-making processes
  • Access to markets, income protection, generation, and diversification
  • Entrepreneurship, technology and innovation
By contributing to this publication, you will increase visibility of your project and have the possibility to inform international policy makers and negotiators on the challenges and successful measures to support small-scale producer youth struggling with the impacts of climate change.

The final case study must be submitted by 28 July 2020 and follow the instructions given on the following webpage.

Please email Koronivia-JWA@fao.org  with your submissions or if you have any questions.
