Tisha B’Av traditionally mourns the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem and other calamities that have befallen our people and the world. This Tisha B’Av, we particularly mourn not only our ancient tragedies, but the human and communal losses of COVID-19. For our Tisha B’Av evening service we invite members to gather outside Temple Beth Israel, for a contemplative, physically distanced walk around the building, to acknowledge our own yearning and our people’s historic yearning for the holy spaces in which we gather and connect. After our walk, there will be a reading of Eicha/Lamentations, in the parking lot. Please brings masks and a cushion or chair to sit on.
If you know you're going to attend, please sign up so we can have a sense of how many people may be here. Feel free to attend even if you don’t sign up in advance. The building will not be open, and there will be no restrooms available.
