This week at TMC:
"At the time for the banquet, he sent his servant to say
to those who had been invited, 'Come, for everything is now ready.'
But they all alike began to make excuses
."
Luke 14:17-18

The Scripture above is part of a parable that Jesus gave at a Sabbath dinner party in the home of a prominent Pharisee. It was given in response to three lessons that He had already offered at the table and in response to the declaration made by one of the invited guests. When properly understood, we discover that the doors to The Kingdom were being shut to people who saw themselves as entitled to enter and opened to people who had given little, if any, thought to God's Kingdom. We also discover that God's Kingdom is not open to those who believe that they are entitled or can earn entry, but to those who could never hope to gain entry. As Jesus said: "I have not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance." Luke 5:32.  Jesus repeatedly made it clear that the only way to gain entrance into God's Kingdom is by turning from self and sin to embrace Him as Savior and Lord. Literally, sinners are called to follow Jesus into The Kingdom.

Sunday's text is Luke 14:12-24. We will discover the meaning of Jesus' parable, identifying the characters, and uncovering the relationship that each has to The Kingdom. If you are well and able, I encourage you to join in with us personally. If you are uncomfortable meeting in large groups, then I encourage you to join our live stream of the worship gathering through our website or Facebook page. Either way, I look forward to worshipping with you.
