Three Questions

<<First Name>>,

“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him. He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.” (John 3:16-18)

I have three questions to offer for discussion in this article. These questions will challenge the strongest believer to evaluate their position concerning a person’s lost soul:
  1. Who in hell cares about the lost? According to the Gospel of Luke, everyone in hell cares about the lost. In chapter 16, the narrative is about the rich man in hell. The interesting thing is that, in hell, the rich man began to pray! First, he prayed for himself, that Abraham would have mercy on him and allow Lazarus to bring him some comfort. Even a drop of cool water would be welcomed. What a change from his elaborate feasts when slaves ran to do his commands! People often ask, “How can a loving God even permit such a place as hell to exist, let alone send people there?” But in asking that question, they reveal that they do not understand either the love of God or the wickedness of sin. God’s love is a holy love, not a shallow sentiment, and sin is rebellion against a holy and loving God. God does not “send people to hell.” They send themselves there by refusing to regard His call and believe on His Son
  2. Who in heaven cares about the lost? According to the Gospel of Luke, chapter 15, everyone in heaven cares about the lost. This chapter illustrates a lost sheep, lost coin, and a wayward son. Each demonstrate the importance of saving one lost sinner. Let’s review the lost sheep. The shepherd in the parable is the Great Shepherd, Jesus Christ. We are the sheep. He had 100 sheep, and one of them got lost. This Shepherd, however, would not be satisfied with just 99 sheep. When one sheep got lost, He went out and looked for it. When He found it, He put it on His shoulders, the place of strength. He is able to save to the ultimate. The high priest of the children of Israel wore an ephod. On the shoulders of the ephod were two stones. On them were engraved the names of the 12 tribes -- six tribes on one stone and six on the other. The high priest carried the children of Israel on his shoulders. Our great High Priest carries us on His shoulders, and we will not become lost. When He starts out with 100 sheep, He will come through with 100 sheep – not 99. This is a picture of the Lord Jesus Christ out looking for those who are His own.
  3. Who on earth cares about the lost? Statisticians estimate that only three percent of evangelicals actively participate in evangelism. That means 97 percent of born-again believers are sitting on the sidelines. Only a small fraction of the church carries out the Savior’s command to seek and save those who are lost. The command is clear in Scripture, yet it stands unfulfilled. Something is terribly wrong!Do you not say, ‘There are yet four months, and then comes the harvest?’ Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look on the fields, that they are white for harvest” (John 4:35).
Praying for the lost unto salvation!

Pastor Rick

Worship With Us This Sunday!

Join us for worship this Sunday, August 2, as Pastor Rick continues our series based on Del Fehsenfeld's book, Ablaze with His Glory. This week's message, "When Are We Going to Get Honest?" is drawn from Chapter 5. The key Scripture passage is Philippians 3:13-14. You can preview the service plan HERE and download the sermon outline HERE as soon as it is available.

We hope to see you and your family for Sunday School at 9:30 a.m. and worship at 10:45. This weekend marks Promotion Sunday for our children and youth Sunday School classes as the start of the new school year approaches.

We are also continuing to post our services online for those who can't join us in person. The worship service video will be posted Sunday evening or Monday to our Facebook page. It will also be available at FreeChurchOnline if you do not have a Facebook account. Be sure to comment and let us know that you're watching with us! If you need any technical assistance, email Josh Erisman.

Fresh Produce Distribution Drive-Thru

First Baptist Church will be receiving three more pallets (approximately 120 boxes) of fresh produce from the USDA Farmers to Families program and Missouri Baptist Disaster Relief on Wednesday, August 5 and we want to share them with the Strafford community! We will be distributing 25 lb. boxes in a "first come, first served" drive-through from 4:30 to 7:00 p.m. (or until supplies run out). If you know of family or neighbors who could use some produce, encourage them to stop by the church next Wednesday.

If you are available to help with unloading the pallets that morning or with the distribution that afternoon, let Pastor Rick or Brittany Erisman know.

Donations for Grand Oak Mission Center

August is First Baptist Church's month to collect food items for Grand Oak Mission Center, a ministry of the Greene County Baptist Association that provides food and clothing to individuals in need. You can place nonperishable food items in the collection wagon in the central hallway. Thanks in advance for your generosity!

Missions Yard Sale Donations

To coincide with Strafford's Citywide Garage Sale, the FBC Missions team will be holding our annual Yard Sale on Saturday, August 8. We are now accepting donations! We cannot accept TVs, computer monitors, beds, hideaway couches, desks, and exercise equipment. Talk with Shannon Peelor if you have any questions.

NOW Resumes This Fall

Our NOW ministry for all ages will resume on Wednesday, August 26 at 6:00 p.m. with a special kickoff night! More details about how NOW will look this fall will be forthcoming, but for now, we want to make you aware of two important items:

First, there will be a KidsNOW volunteer training meeting on Wednesday, August 19 at 7:00 p.m. We will review policies and procedures for keeping everyone safe and healthy while we the share the gospel with these precious children each week.

Second, because we did not get to host Vacation Bible School this summer, we will be doing "Concrete & Cranes" VBS over the five Wednesday nights in September. The schedule will be condensed from our usual three-hour VBS, but children will still enjoy a worship rally and Bible study, along with crafts, recreation, and music time. (Be prepared for the entire church to be decorated with a construction theme that month, as Pastor Rick will be preaching a corresponding sermon series beginning Sunday, August 30!)

If you are interesting in serving in either VBS or KidsNOW this year, contact children's minister Brittany Erisman.

Messengers Needed

First Baptist Church is entitled to send messengers (voting delegates) to the annual meetings of the Greene County Baptist Association (Thursday, August 27, 10:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Boulevard Baptist Church, Springfield) and the Missouri Baptist Convention (October 26-27, St. Charles Convention Center). If you are a church member and would be interested in representing us at either of these important events, contact Josh Erisman by Friday, July 31.

"FBC Strafford Family" Facebook Group

One way we are staying in touch as a church family is through our “FBC Strafford Family” Facebook group. This group is being used to share live videos, prayer requests, devotionals, and internal announcements through the week.

If you are a regular attender here at FBC and you are not yet a part of the group, click the link, request to join, and start connecting with your church family online!

Giving Options

Even if you aren't joining us for in-person worship on Sunday, please continue to remember your tithes and offerings. The church’s ministries and operational expenses go on in spite of the current situation. We want to be a blessing to our community and it takes resources to do that. Your faithful giving makes it possible!

In addition to dropping cash or checks in the offering box on Sunday morning, there are multiple ways to give your tithes and offerings:
  • Online through Tithe.ly or the Tithe.ly app
  • Mail a check to First Baptist Church, PO Box 367, Strafford, MO 65757
  • Several of our members have begun using online bill pay through their bank to send in their offering. This is a free service that some banks provide. All you have to do is add the church’s name and address as a vendor, just like you would the electric company or any other business.
  • You can also drop your offering by the church office, but please call ahead to make sure that someone will be in the office.
Thank you again, church family, for your generous and faithful giving! If you need help setting up online giving or have any questions, contact Josh Erisman.
