Gripper has cracked it… his playing has a depthless beauty, which does full justice to the complexity of Toumani’s compositions. To do so without any hint of the music being dumbed down is a staggering achievement on solo guitar.”

Derick Gripper LIVE in Melbourne Last show before Lockdown
CONCERT AVAILABLE ON THE WEBSITE

www.brooklyntheatre.tv
FROM Friday 31 July 19:30

The day before flying home to South Africa, a few days before the announcement of lockdown, Derek finished the sixteenth of his Australian concerts in Melbourne, presented by the Melbourne Guitar Society, playing a diverse programme of original compositions, J.S. Bach violin works, the Malian kora transcriptions for which he has become globally known, and a transcription by Arvo Part.

Performed in a beautiful hall and recorded and filmed by a local sound engineers and three cameramen, this concert is a great example of a musician in full flight after a sold out tour in ten cities. Derek returned to SA from these concerts to a quiet concert scene closed down by the pandemic. He immediately started to broadcast live from his living room in daily lesson streams and concerts for presenters around the world.
This concert concert has been specially edited for Brooklyn Theatre’s streaming service.

EXSULTATE JUBILATE - MOZART
Ilze Coetzee (soprano) & Marnus Greyling (organ)

St George's Anglican Church Parktown
 – Rieger Pipe organ

The magnificent Rieger organ, in this intimate stone church, nestled in the heart of the green suburb of Parktown, Johannesburg, was a serious draw-card to record this beautiful selection of music for organ and soprano.

FULL CONCERT available from 7 August 19:30 on the website
www.brooklyntheatre.tv

The Rieger organ was donated by Nicky and Strilli Oppenheimer and was installed in 2012. The 33 registers are subdivided into 10 stops in the Great, 15 in the Swell and 8 stops in the pedal. The Musical Director of St, George’s – Marnus Greyling, a brilliant young Cambridge music graduate, performs a selection of works, to show this instrument off to the best of its ability.

Marnus is joined by Ilze Coetzee for the main work on the programme, namely the Exsultate Jubilate (Mozart), which ends with the famous Allelujah aria. As coloratura of note, Ilze has sung the leading operatic roles for Brooklyn Theatre over the past 10 years. These include, among others, the Queen of the Night, Lucia di Lammermoor, Norma, Gilda in Rigoletto , Rosalinde & Adele in Fledermaus.

Brooklyn Theatre TV thanks St George’s for the use of the venue and instrument for this special concert.

Arts & Crafts @ Greenlyn launches its online market.

During the last 10 years the Arts and Craft Market @ Greenlyn Village Centre has become known as a destination where visitors from all over the world can come and relax, and stroll through a quality market. Patrons were impressed by the variety of products on offer, the tranquillity of the setting, and friendly and helpful vendors that served them.

However, as you know, the COVID-19 pandemic has put all of this on hold indefinitely. With this in mind and in line with worldwide trends, the market owners have decided to bring this beautiful market to YOU, with as many of the products on offer at the market as possible.

Now you can browse at your own leisure, in your own home, shop and get it delivered right to your door. Or, if you are shopping for a special gift, we’ll ship it directly to the recipient. Who doesn’t love a surprise parcel?!

View our online market here: https://market.artscraftsgreenlyn.com/

As an added bonus, vendors don’t have to contend with limited stall space and are not bound by a specific area. Vendors and visitors from anywhere in South Africa can now become part of our online market community. Great news for vendors and shoppers alike!
