Editorial

We are happy to give an insight into two projects with EADI involvement: Bridge 47 and EnerSHelF. Bridge 47 held its third Iberian knowledge exchange partnership meeting and Talia Vela-Eiden summarizes the session in her blogpost. For the EnerSHelF project, we point to recent interviews published on the project’s website. Besides a reminder for our forthcoming virtual dialogues, we invite you to rewatch the recordings of the latest events that are now online. Furthermore, this newsletter contains the newest open access article in the EJDR, a highlight on a special issue of the JCER on the evolution of EU development policy, news picks from our members as well as a regional focus on East Africa in our publication section. Finally, we offer you a selection of recent members’ postings on jobs, trainings, open online activities, calls, and blog articles.
EADI is the knowledge and network partner for the German-Ghanaian EnerSHelF project. EnerSHelF aims to improve and disseminate marketable PV-based energy solutions for health facilities in Ghana. On a weekly basis, interviews with researchers and other project members are published on the EnerSHelF website. One of the latest interviews is with Prof. Stefanie Meilinger on How Internal and External Factors Influence PV Solar Solutions.

New on our Blog: Learning from the Grassroots
Learning from the Grassroots: “Together we are much more than two”
"Local governments are the nearest actors to the citizens, as they are in daily interaction and communication with them and have an immediate influence on them." The third Bridge 47 Iberian knowledge exchange partnership meeting took place online. However, a lively discussion emerged centring around “the role of academia and its ethical and political links with civil society, social movements, and social transformation.” Talia Vela-Eiden, the Project Officer at EADI for the Bridge47 project, summarizes the main objectives of the meeting in her blogpost and highlights the importance of a “synergy of objectives” and community participation. EADI Virtual Dialogue #24: The Rise and Fall of the Aid Effectiveness Norm
In this online-seminar, Prof. Stephen Brown discusses his work on the effectiveness of foreign aid. Faced with often disappointing results, scholars, policy makers and practitioners have been trying for decades to determine what makes aid more effective. The Paris Declaration on Aid Effectiveness, adopted in 2005, constituted the overarching norm for 21st-century development cooperation. However, its principles were only slowly and partially put into practice.
