We persist, we unite, we grow

While the last few months have been challenging worldwide, we have been fortunate enough to encounter some really positive opportunities. Our employees have come together and risen to the challenge, coming to work everyday wearing masks. We have worked on several opportunities for medical supplies that would support the COVID-19 pandemic. We continue to maintain our carbon footprint while expanding our building footprint. We believe that our knowledge, experience and perseverance will continue to benefit our customers and bring new opportunities.

Below are some recent articles that share our latest endeavors. The first discusses some of our contributions to assist in the fight against Covid 19, quick turn around of parts, and advanced molding methods. The second one discusses  our sustainability: "'The fact that Harbec is carbon-neutral allows customers who buy its parts to 'take a bite' out of their own companies’ carbon footprints,' Bechtold said."  We are also thrilled to announce that our 50001 SEP Platinum certification has been reissued. Lastly, we are GROWING! Check out this drone video of our expansion and additional details about this project.

Molder Pushes Limits of Rapid Tooling in Coronavirus Crash Projects

Plastics Technology

Injection molders have probably all encountered customers that demand projects to be executed with impossibly short lead times. But an entirely different sense of urgency has galvanized plastics processors to devote every resource and stretch their capabilities to meet the need for protective masks and testing devices in the global battle against the novel coronavirus. One such molder is Harbec, Inc. in Ontario, N.Y., which relied on both its molding skills and moldmaking expertise to beat the clock in three COVID-19 related projects—and in the process accomplish new feats with 3D-printed tooling.  READ MORE...

Harbec Succeeds in Carbon-Neutral Quest

Plastics Machinery

Harbec, a manufacturer of precision components for aerospace, medical and high-end industrial applications, has been generating its own electricity, heat and air conditioning for 19 years.

The company, which provides additive manufacturing, machining and injection molding services, in 2001 began its green-energy journey with the construction of a combined cooling, heat and power (CCHP) system. In subsequent years, company owner Bob Bechtold was so impressed with the results that he expanded the system to serve the entire facility and added two wind turbines. He now plans to install a solar array on an upcoming plant addition. READ MORE...

50001 SEP Platinum

We are happy to announce that we have received our ISO 50001 SEP Platinum certification. We have had our 50001 certification since 2013 and the Platinum distinction since 2018. Platinum is the highest possible level which is currently achieved by only 9 companies in North America.  Accomplishing this is important to us because it allows us to control the amount of energy we use, and in fact use less energy to to the same job. Using less energy means more money in the bottom line. We call this Eco Economics. Learn more about  certification or check out the list of other certified companies.

We're growing!

This spring the  30,000 sf expansion of our building began. This addition will allow us to redesign the layout and grow our 3 core capabilities of injection molding, cnc machining and additive manufacturing while optimizing our 5S strategies.Below are a few notable points which will be elaborated on in the upcoming Fall newsletter update. Until then, check out our drone footage of the foundation work.
  • dedicated medical molding area with permanent cleanroom
  • expanded additive capabilities
  • new entrance
  • solar panels on the roof
  • same attention to environmental impact as other construction projects which includes:
    • in floor radiant heating
    • 3" structural insulated panels and double insulated roof
    • daylighting with windows around all 3 exposed sides
We optimize the design, prototyping and manufacturing needs of your products to the highest specifications, tightest tolerances and greatest quality.
