This is the 52nd issue of Vicious Shivers,
a (mostly) weekly newsletter for fans of my work.

You know nothing. Hell is only a word. The reality is much, much worse.
I realized this week that I’m not enjoying life the way I should. I’ve seen pictures of friends going on hikes and fishing, videos of friends climbing mountains, and it makes me feel like I’m missing out. Right now, I work and work and work (or at least sit in my office and think about working). I try to spend some time in the pool with Cindy and Squish when I get a chance. But I’m not getting out there and experiencing anything new. Of course, the world right now is not conducive to experiencing much. We had plans for a couple of trips this summer that would have been amazing, and those have been cancelled. I hope we can make them happen in the next year or so. But I feel like I need to start thinking of some activities that will broaden my horizons and my mind. That’s what I woke up thinking about this morning. Yesterday, I woke up thinking that my dog, who was sleeping in bed next to me, looked like an evil demon baby staring at me and hungering for my soul. So this is an improvement, right?

Suggestions for activities even in the darkest timeline?

Photography? Bird-watching? Bathtub beer making?

Lots of worlds created over the last week.

Finished a new short story that opened my eyes to a possible project that would be much bigger and involve many more people.

I was talking to an artist about working together and pitched a story idea to him that immediately blossomed into something really cool (I think) and I wrote 10 pages of script for it before getting out of bed yesterday.

I am involved in a (for now secret) project to revitalize a line of books that will involve the creation of 5 different comic book universes. I managed to put my initial plans for all of those books in writing. More on that soon.

My pal Anton and I dug a little deeper into the world of a TV pitch we’re developing.

Lots of new concepts I’m super excited about.

As Anton put it, this week I am the reverse Galactus, creating worlds instead of eating them. I think he really wanted to say I was vomiting worlds up, but that works, too.

Speaking of new worlds... I have been teasing this for a while. This week, I’m teasing it some more. I wanted to show you some art for this weird little project I’m working on, but it won’t be ready until next week. But here’s the logo! What could it mean?
More on that in the next edition of this e-newsletter!

And, just in case you want to breeze over the next two items in the newsletter because you think you’ve seen them before. DEMOCRITUS BRAND AND THE ENDLESS MACHINE only has a week left before the campaign closes. The campaign has funded, but we could definitely use your support. So please check it out!

And the HARROW COUNTY Priscilla plush doll only has a week or so left for pre-orders. Right now, we do not have enough pre-orders to warrant actually sending the doll to press. So, if you want one, you need to pre-order it!

Thanks for your time and support and friendship, folks! It means the world!

THE ENDLESS MACHINE

Have you checked out DEMOCRITUS BRAND AND THE ENDLESS MACHINE yet? The campaign is live on Kickstarter right now and only has about a week left! It's a steampunk/horror story I've co-written with JimmyZ Johnston. It's illustrated lavishly by Federico de Luca and lettered by Simon Bowland.

We have reached our initial goal, so the project is happening! We've added some cool stretch goals, as well as some new variant covers and even one-on-one discussions with yours truly.

I hope you'll check out the campaign, because this book is going to be so much fun!
DEMOCRITUS BRAND AND THE ENDLESS MACHINE is now LIVE on Kickstarter!

HARROW COUNTY PRISCILLA PLUSH

So, real talk. If you are a fan of HARROW COUNTY and want one of these awesome plush dolls of Priscilla, you must pre-order it. If we don’t get a certain number of pre-orders, the plush will not go into print. And we’re not anywhere near the threshold yet. Please pre-order by August 5th to help this doll become a reality.

The Limited Edition Priscilla Plush is straight out of HARROW COUNTY, published by Dark Horse Entertainment. This officially licensed collectible measures approx. 12-inches tall.

Super soft Priscilla is highly detailed from her head to her poseable tail.

And Skelton Crew is offering a couple of sweet bonuses! Orders placed by 8/5 ship with BOTH a canvas map of Harrow County designed by Tyler Crook AND a naming certificate signed by Tyler and myself!

SCARES THAT CARE

I was really looking forward to the Scares That Care Weekend, but that had to be postponed. But the event organizers are doing a virtual convention this weekend, and they have some amazing panels lined up. You can see the entire schedule HERE.  I'll be participating in the following panel:

11:00am – 11:50am (EST): MY FAVORITE HORROR COMICSTim Seeley, Rachel Autumn Deering, Jamal Igle, Cullen Bunn, Maurice Broaddus, and Matt Wildasin (moderator) discuss their favorite horror comic books of all time.
I hope you'll mark your calendar and join us!

Scares That Care is a really amazing organization. This year, 100% of the money raised during this one-day event will go to their 2020 recipients. They are:

*Ashley Adams and her daughter Natalya, who has Marfan Syndrome.
*Laura, a breast cancer warrior known for her work in Arkansas’s LGBTQ+ community.
*Patricia, who suffered second and third degree burns to the entire right side of her body.

Find out more about the organization HERE

COMICS THIS WEEK

A few new books hit the shelves this week!
TALES FROM HARROW COUNTY Trade Paperback

Ten years have passed since Emmy exited Harrow County, leaving her close friend Bernice as steward of the supernatural home. But World War II is in full swing, taking Harrow's young men and leaving the community more vulnerable than ever--and when a ghostly choir heralds the resurrection of the dead, Bernice must find a solution before the town is overrun. Collects the four-issue miniseries.
DARK ARK: AFTER THE FLOOD #5

A loathsome traitor from the past seeks to turn the denizens of the Dark Ark against Khalee and her family. But this fiend brings an even more terrifying promise-that the floodwaters will rise once more!
ROGUE PLANET #3

Their numbers dwindling as malevolent forces work against them, the crew of the Cortes struggle to stay alive on a lost planet. At every turn, they are beset by horrors from their own nightmares. Now, they have discovered that they are not alone on the planet, and the other inhabitants welcome them as sacrifices.
SHADOW ROADS #9

In Calcutta, Henry learns from his mother the truth of what happened with her and his father, Screaming Crow. She warns him that a vile assassin--a fae creature named Asha--is after him and his powerful blade. Across town, Barry has arrived and--along with his new allies--is homing in on the location of Henry. In England, Kalfu and Abigail meet with one of his 'professional contacts' in search of information on Henry's whereabouts.

WEEKLY OBSESSIONS

This week I'm...

Reading - SCENECLOPEDIA: HORROR by Kelly Goodner. The book takes dozens of horror movies and breaks down every single scene. I found it interesting in terms of outlining and planning. I’ve also been reading a bunch of Bentley Little short stories because I had a hankering for his surreal brand of terror.

Watching - Probably a mistake... or an exercise in nihilism... but I’ve been going back and forth between HANNIBAL and TRUE DETECTIVE. Those are some dark, dark shows to allow to root in one’s mind.

Playing - Still playing D&D once or twice a week.

Drinking - I haven’t been making many cocktails in the past couple of weeks. Weird, since my booze fridge seems to be growing emptier by the day.

WHERE TO FIND ME ONLINE

WEBSITE - If you haven’t been there lately, you should check it out. I’ve started posting a lot more content and news on the site.

TWITTER - This is the best place to interact with me online. My handle is @cullenbunn

PATREON - Here, I post a serialized novel, a serialized comic book, short stories, and other cool materials.

THE BUNNGALOW - A regular podcast in which my wife Cindy and I talk about comic books, our lives, and just about everything in between.
