Throughout 2020 acclaimed artists from Iltja Ntjarra Art Centre will offer 7 hands on watercolour masterclasses and Q and A for all artists and art lovers. Join painters & descendants of iconic artist Albert Namatjira and experience, absorb and practice their approach. By the end of the masterclass you will have your own work on paper in watercolour. Proudly Aboriginal owned and directed, Iltja Ntjarra Art Centre was established in 2004 as a place for Western Aranda artists to come together, paint and exchange creative ideas.
The centre focuses on supporting landscape artists of the ‘Hermannsburg School’, who continue to paint in the tradition of their grandfather and relative, Albert Namatjira, one of the most renowned artists of the 20th century. The Hermannsburg school artists have followed the watercolour tradition since the 1950s and are now sought after exhibiting watercolour artists. These masterclasses are a rare and coveted opportunity for members of the public to engage and paint with the artists in a virtual space.
The workshop: 2- 3 skilled watercolour painters will demonstrate to participants the watercolour painting technique, talking and offering advice in a 90 minute ‘Zoom’ video session.
This is an immersive workshop process, directive is often gentle, mostly the artists lead by letting participants observe them painting. Participants will receive a sheet of watercolour paper, Inspiration image that the artist will be working from, brushes and a set of watercolour paints. You are encouraged to follow along with the image provided or attempt your own landscape painting.
