Supplying the South West Portal

Swindon Borough Council would like to encourage all local providers to register on the South West portal to keep up to date with all upcoming opportunities including the soft market testing event for community mental health services.

Community Policing Shop opens in Swindon town centre

Wiltshire Police opened their first Community Policing Shop in the centre of Swindon this morning at Canal Walk in the Brunel Centre.

The shop will be open to the public 10am - 2.00pm Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday for a 5 week period until Saturday 22 December. Officers and PCSOs will be covering a number of themed topics linking to wider campaigns including:

Swindon CPTs launch Operation Dasher
Christmas shopping
Home security
Personal safety
Night time economy

Opening Times Over Christmas

The VAS office at John Street will close at 4.30pm on Friday 21st December, and will reopen at 9:30am on Wednesday 2nd January.

The main Sanford House reception and Citizens Advice Swindon reception at Sanford House will close at 1pm on Monday 24th December, and will reopen at 9:30am on Wednesday 2nd January.

SMASH Volunteer Recruitment Day

SMASH will be holding a volunteer recruitment day for anyone who is looking to volunteer with them. Anyone who would like to help young people build their confidence and resilience is encouraged to attend this session to find out more.

Booking for the sessions on Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd February 2019 are essential.

Virgin Money Giving lets donors cover platform fees

Virgin Money Giving has changed its fee structure to give donors the chance to cover its 2% platform fee.

The non-profit fundraising platform’s ‘donor covers fee’ feature allows donors to cover the fee it charges to charities to use the site.

Initially this will be available to the platform’s ten major charity partners and will be rolled out for all its charity partners by the end of 2018.

Risk Management Guide for Small Charities Launches

An online guide has been created to help small charities manage risk and better understand issues such as data protection.

The Charity & Community Help Hub has been launched by third sector specialist online insurance broker PolicyBee and signposts useful information on issues including health and safety and General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Managing staff and volunteers, fundraising, good governance as well as trustee and director issues are also covered.

Disability Experts Courses January-February 2019

Disability Experts CIC, based at the VAS building on John Street, are running a range of courses in November and December. These courses include Digital Skills, Small Group Literacy, Driving Theory, CSCS, Creating Confidence and more.
