💢 Zlatan in Zeventh Heaven

The Vamps got straight back into it on the first weekend of the new year with two wins for title chasing teams and a hard-fought draw for the 5s at EBOG.

Captain Dan Dawson got the winner for the 3s against Garchonians while Charlie 'Zlatan' Ephgrave got four against local rivals Winchmore Hill to pull them to within 6 points of leaders Old Lyonians 3s. At Barnet, Luke Unwin and Adrian Vazquez-Camacho each scored twice for the 5s in an 8-goal thriller at EBOG which ended all square.

This weekend it's top vs bottom as the 1s host Kew Association while the 4s visit Alexandra Park under the watchful eye of new cameraman Dean Appleyard. The 5s face Tansley, looking to make up ground with fourteen league games still to play while the Vets host Hinton & Finchley in the Vets Cup, also on Saturday afternoon.

The Vets are on the lookout for players to bolster their squad in the SAL Vets League Most games are played on Sunday mornings with some on Saturdays from time to time.

Players must be 35 or over but are allowed to play Saturdays and Sundays, even if they play for another club on Saturday.

So, first game back and to be honest i was glad it was against WH7s with Henry Buli retiring and three blow outs late call ups left us with 12 players but boy did we play well. With a slight tweak to the formation we started the game against a lot of 6footers and tried to keep hitting it long which their back four kept heading clear. After constant nagging and exasperation from me on the sides we started knocking the ball about and scored a great first goal after 25 mins with ball playing from right back all the way through the team until after "Six Passes" Bradley squared it to Matt Breen on the edge of the box to which Breen smashed in. top bins. Shortly after again Bradley poked the ball over the last defender's head for Knighty to volley home, low to the keeper's left; half time.

We knew we had to get the next goal as we didn't want WH getting any confidence and the football got better from here on with us breaking from a corner and the start of the Charlie Ephgrave Show as he held the ball up and played Ashkan Kalashy through. Kalashy went round the keeper which took him wide but Ephgrave had sprinted forward after the through ball and was arriving just inside the box when Kalashy chipped it straight to his path where again Ephgrave volleyed home - another great goal and 3-0.

Five minutes later and it was Ephgrave breaking down the right from Kalashy's through ball. This time Ephgrave chipped to the back post where Sean Warner headed home with the keeper in no man's land. The next goal was a tidy finish from Ephgrave and the last two were tap-ins from tight angles after a save and tackle.

Great start to the new year - now lets keep this going.!
