12 Days of Christmas
Prophecy
Day 2 of The 12 Days of Christmas +1, a series of thoughts on the holiday season

"I will declare the Lord's decree: He said to Me, 'You are My Son; today I have become Your Father.'"  Psalm 2:7

If I told you something would happen tomorrow and it happened, you might be impressed. If I told you that something would happen next year and it happened, you would probably be more impressed. What if I told you something that would happen a few hundred years from now and it happened? I would assume that would impress most anyone. God has done that throughout His Word; He has told us time and again things that would happen and they did. Take Jesus, for example. Throughout the Old Testament, there are numerous prophecies concerning Christ. Here are just a few -

               He would be born of a virgin: Isaiah 7:13-14

               He would be from the house of David: Jeremiah 23:5

               He would be born in Bethlehem: Micah 5:2

               He would be an heir to David's throne: II Samuel 7:12-13

Many other prophecies point not only to Christ's birth but also to His life, ministry, death, and resurrection. And these occurred hundreds of years before His birth. God told us when Jesus would be born, where He would be born, of which family He would be born.

As we continue to approach the day of His birth, remember that each event is happening as God told us it would through His Word. And the most exciting part of all of this? God has also told us that He will return again. And His second coming will not be as a child in a feeding trough, it will be as the returning King in the sky. We will soon celebrate the humble birth of our Lord, but don't forget that He will come again, majestically as the King of kings and Lord of lords.

I remember the great words of the children's song that each of us knows, simple words of the assurance we have - 'The Bible tells me so.’

Jesus loves me! This I know,
For the Bible tells me so;
Little ones to Him belong,
They are weak but He is strong.
Yes, Jesus loves me!
Yes, Jesus loves me!
Yes, Jesus loves me!
The Bible tells me so.

Jesus loves me! He who died,
Heaven's gate to open wide;
He will wash away my sin,
Let His little child come in.
Yes, Jesus loves me!
Yes, Jesus loves me!
Yes, Jesus loves me!
The Bible tells me so.

Jesus loves me, loves me still,
When I'm very weak and ill;
From His shining throne on high,
Comes to watch me where I lie.
Yes, Jesus loves me!
Yes, Jesus loves me!
Yes, Jesus loves me!
The Bible tells me so.

Jesus loves me! He will stay,
Close beside me all the way;
He's prepared a home for me,
And some day His face I'll see.
Yes, Jesus loves me!
Yes, Jesus loves me!
Yes, Jesus loves me!
The Bible tells me so.
