Art Inspiration

This week, I came across this stunning art installation: Blue Large-Amplitude Pulsator Star, an Audio-Visual Sculptural Installation, by Cascione & Lusciov. They say of the inspiration and work:

"Atacama Observatory, Chile, 2013.

A team of astronomers researching the anomalies in the pulsation of some stars, in scientific terms, refer to a pulsating star as a star close to fading. These anomalies recorded by astronomers in the Chilean desert, lead to a definition of the duration of the pulsation time intervals that can be around the fraction of a second, or reach the duration of millions of years. The stars are no longer fixed and absolute entities, but they also show they have a transience and variability that unites them to the destiny of man.

The flickering of the celestial bodies punctuates the breath of the universe. The viewer is immersed in the darkness of the galaxy, blinded by intense fluorescent irradiation, and is catapulted into the sidereal body.

A place where star and man can breathe in unison, reflecting on the transience of existence.

The rhythm of the pulsations is stressed by the sounds of space, the result of the interpretation by the artists, the sound element emphasizes and enriches the experience, giving the perception of being in a celestial body."

Launching Pad

In my earlier career, I worked as an aerospace engineer until April 2014 when I radically redesigned my life to focus on my physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health. My company name, Quilting Jetgirl, is a blend of my professional histories and the tagline “Sewing at the Speed of Sound” is a nod to my work on the second privately funded (non-government) vehicle to break the sound barrier. I have been quilting for 20+ years and I credit quilting with helping me feel balanced and connected to both my local hometown community and a larger global community. My pattern writing is heavily influenced by my technical background.

When I decided to start my newsletter in May 2018, I struggled to come up with a name. I called it All the Angles and my thought was for it to be a roundup. But the reality is that doesn't align with my goals, and how I seek to be a part of this community.

As I began to focus on my 2019 goals, I realized that it was time to re-focus my intentions and desires for this newsletter. And just like that, I knew that the right name for my newsletter is Launching Pad.

Thank you so much for being a part of my quilting community. Let's let's take off together on a mission to joyfully quilt, make connections, build community, and make quilts that you are proud of!

#2019PlanningParty

Speaking of 2019 goals, the #2019PlanningParty is officially open! I look forward to reading about your plans for 2019!

If you are looking for inspiration or help on what a goal setting post might look like, here are the links for the previous Planning Party linkups:

Medallion Magic QAL

My friend and client* Leanne from Devoted Quilter just released a new pattern, Medallion Magic, and announced that she will be hosting a QAL following the pattern in 2019. (*I am a technical editor for Leanne's patterns.)

"Medallion Magic is the result of me wanting a medallion quilt where each border has a bit of breathing room so that all the individual parts can shine. I also wanted to make it a rectangular quilt, rather than the usual square. The throw size quilt finishes at 62"x 70" and is made using traditional piecing and foundation paper piecing.

The QAL will start January 15th and will run for 6 months, with a finish link up party in August 2019. There will be prizes and link up parties and beautiful eye candy and I can't wait!! I know, too many exclamation points in this post, but I'm *almost* wishing it were January 15th already."

Inheritance: Minimal Quilts for the Modern Home

My friend and client* Rianne from Riane Elise just announced that her self-published book, Inheritance: Minimal Quilts for the Modern Home is beginning to be printed! (*I am a technical editor for the book.)

"As a young woman, I learned the joy and craft of quiltmaking from my grandmother. Together we stepped into the tradition as so many women before us had done, learning from each other and continuing the art of quilting.

Featuring over a dozen modern and minimal designs, Inheritance: Minimal Quilts for the Modern Home brings quilting into the 21st century with quilt patterns and sewing techniques for all skill levels.

This book is being printed on demand. Printing can take up to two weeks during the holiday season, but as soon as it’s hot off the press, it will ship straight to your door."
