Sadly, rather than bringing communities together, transport sometimes threatens to sever them. Just look at Rimrose Valley Country Park, an oasis of green in the middle of a built-up area of Sefton, Merseyside. For generations it's been cherished by local people who meet there to picnic and play, enjoying its fresh air and tranquility. It includes a wetland nature reserve with orchids, water voles and an abundance of birdlife.
Now Highways England wants to build a dual carriageway right through its heart.
We've been supporting local people campaigning against the road.

"I live alone in a rural village but we have an hourly bus service which connects to a rail service, so if I'm feeling lonely I can visit the library, read newspapers, books, have lunch in the café. It is a fantastic resource. I have a senior bus pass and Railcard and the library is free so my small pension income does not prevent me from using the services."
