Holiday greetings from the Neighbour Day team

In this edition, we throw out a Christmas challenge from our friends at R U OK?, share a fantastic new blog and ask you to participate in a two-minute survey.

Here at the Neighbour Day team, we’d like to start with a big thanks. We’d like to say thanks to you for all the things you do every day - in big and small ways - to help grow stronger, well-connected and supportive communities.

In the new year, we look forward to sharing information, ideas and neighbourly tips on our 2019 Neighbour Day theme: Loneliness and what neighbours can do to create connections.

Check out our website for more information on how to get involved.

R U OK? Holiday Helper Challenge

For many, Christmas can be a particularly isolating and lonely time. The pain of losing loved ones, of being estranged, or away from family, can be amplified when others are sharing their plans for family holidays and gatherings.

To help those who might be struggling to find some Christmas joy, why don’t you step up as an R U OK? Holiday Helper and spread a little more kindness, cheer and conversation.

Taking part is simple, on each day of the 12 days, leading up to Christmas - complete a single challenge that's designed to connect you with others, lend an ear and give back to the community.

Keep an eye out for our neighbourly Holiday Helper challenge on Day 5! #RUOKhelper

Welcome – what an awesome word!

This time of year many people may feel isolated: neighbours, international students and even families.

The founder of The Welcome Dinner Project Penny Elsley kindly wrote us a terrific blog on how to connect people around a table.

If you have a spare chair at your dinner table this Christmas, perhaps you might like to invite someone who might be spending Christmas alone to join you for a meal.
