The office of Leadership Development: Women’s and Ethnic Ministry began a little over a year ago. This ministry exists to reach out to individuals in all levels of leadership—locally, regionally, and denominationally. As a first step, the office is primarily focusing on women. This is a great time to help women fully embrace their callings in ministry, use their gifts to advance God’s work, and mentor younger women in seminary, churches, and the denomination.

Women are serving in numerous ways, as pastors, chaplains, deacons, elders, staff, and ministry leaders. The number of women enrolling in seminary is increasing; however, placement after seminary has become a concern.

We have identified several ways to connect with women and local churches to develop leaders. In order to implement our plan for making these connections, we have set a goal of $85,000. This is needed for creating learning events and communities for women to grow as leaders, as well as helping congregations develop processes for continued growth. This includes resources for respectful, constructive dialogue about the role of women in the life of the church and denomination.
