Youth News
Youth News is a regular email service which provides sectoral news alongside programme and funding opportunities. It is circulated to a readership of 700+ including youth clubs, regional voluntary youth organisations, government departments, MLAs, Education Authority, policy makers, practitioners, sponsors and various grant giving trusts and foundations. The Northern Ireland Commissioner for Children and Young People (NICCY) are recruiting young people to join their NICCY Youth Panel (NYP).

The purpose of the NYP is to advise the Commissioner in her day-to-day work of promoting and safeguarding children’s rights in Northern Ireland. It is made up of young people from across Northern Ireland, who share their experiences and thoughts with the Commissioner and her staff to help NICCY make decisions about issues that affect children and young people.

Recruitment is open to young people aged between 12-16 years, or up to 18 if you have a disability or have experienced living in care.


Closing deadline: Friday 11th January 2019 with applicants to be invited to a recruitment day.

Do Something Active

Our Do Something Active project which equips female leaders to become peer educators in health & well-being programmes has been running across Belfast youth organisations over the last few months. This project has allowed females to participate in yoga, gym sessions and learn about healthy living.

If your youth organisation is based in Belfast and interested in availing of a grant of £500 for the project to be ran in your youth organisation contact us.

Education Authority Public Consultations on proposed Funding Scheme

We would like to remind our readers that The Education Authority (EA) is seeking the views of Youth Service stakeholders including children, young people and other interested parties on a proposed funding scheme for Regional and Local Voluntary Youth Organisations.

Consultations on these proposals will take place between the 6th November 2018 and 5th February 2019.

Following consultation and approval by the EA Board and presentation to DE, a summary report of responses to the consultation and the agreed new Funding Scheme for regional and local voluntary youth organisations will be made available to the public on the EA website www.eani.org.uk.

5-A-Sides Tournaments

Places are filling for Boys & Girls Clubs annual Boys 5-A-Sides Tournaments for Boys Under 12's and Boys Under 14's.

Book a place for you and your youth organisation to play in Lisburn, Omagh or Newry. Successful teams will advance to the NI Final in Manchester.

West Belfast charity seeking donations to support young people at Christmas
 

Whiterock Children Centre charity is asking people to consider donating a toy, clothes or pyjamas to a local child this Christmas to support over 200 children who are in financial difficulty.

"Any of us could find ourselves in financial difficulty and it would be good if we could get help, especially at Christmas."

Do Something Together

Young people across Portadown area participated in the good relations project 'Do Something Together' this week and got festive building and filling Christmas hampers together.



This project helps shape community relations with a range of youth organisations including Scotch Street Youth & Community Centre, Dungannon Youth Resource Centre, Oasis Youth and Seagoe Youth Group getting involved.

Hit the North Arts Project
 
Young people from John Paul II Youth Club have been getting involved in the Community Arts Workshop Programme 'Hit the North' creating spray art to represent their work in the community. 

We look forward to seeing the completed artwork.
