Volunteers are always needed at St. Andrew's, whether it is to help as a greeter or make coffee on Sunday mornings, baptisms, communions, fundraisers, outreach, etc. If you are are interested in helping out, send us an email and let us know.  
New & Important Reminders
St. Andrew’s will be hosting another Quiz Night on Saturday, February 16 @ 7pm. Get your team of 4-6 people organized early! Single entries are welcome and encouraged—we will add you to another team or create a new team. Tickets are $20 per person including snacks and beverages, with wine and beer available to purchase for $5. Tickets will be available to purchase from the Narthex on Sunday mornings starting Sunday, January 6 and from the church office starting on Monday, January 7. Enjoy a night out with friends on a cold winter evening. (If you would like to give tickets as a stocking stuffer, please contact the office by Wednesday, December 19.)
 

Bridge Luncheon

Save the Date! St. Andrew's River Heights United Church is hosting their Annual Bridge Luncheon on Monday, April 29 at 11:45 - 3:15 in the St. Andrew's Auditorium. Get four of your favorite bridge players together and watch for ticket info in the new year. $60 per table.
 

Canadian Tire Money

Reminder! We are still collecting Canadian Tire money which we use to purchase church necessities on occasion. A labelled box for collection can be found in the Narthex.

Sunday School

On Sunday, December 16, the children and youth are caroling on Oak Street during the Church Service. Dress warm and meet downstairs in the auditorium. The Nursery will be open for the younger children.

You're Invited!

St. Andrew's River Heights has been invited to Westworth's Annual Advent Event on Friday, December 14 at 6.30pm. This is a "Make and Take" Advent Craft and Cookie decorating evening. There will be hot chocolate and hot apple cider and of course Xmas cookies.

Holiday Office Closure

The office will be closed from December 24—28, 31 and January 4. The office will be open on Jan 2 & 3. There will be a newsletter that goes out on Jan 3, so have any announcements into the church office by noon on Jan 2.  If you have any pastoral concerns during this time, contact Rev. Karen Lumley on her cell @ 204-????????????. Emails and voicemails will be monitored during this time.

Presbytery News

Thank You: The final meeting of Winnipeg Presbytery was held at the United Church in Meadowood on December 11. We want to give  a special shout out to all of you who have acted as Presbytery Reps over the course of the history of Presbytery. We give a special acknowledgement to the 4 reps who have served St. Andrew's for the past number of years - Peter Brehaut (lead rep), Rita Swan (longest serving rep), Vinnie Ashton, Heather Mian and Linda Paul (Member-at-large). Your faithful attendance at all the meetings has not gone unnoticed. Thank you very much for your dedication.

Wind Dixtour

Join us for a concert fundraiser on Monday, December 17, 2018 at St. Andrew's River Heights @ 7pm. Two quintets join forces for this rare event: a double woodwind quintet in concert, featuring repertoire by Mozart, Albeniz, Francaix, and Janacek. With special guest Allen Harrington on contrabassoon. Tickets are $10 and will be available at the door.

2018 Annual Report

It’s nearing that time of year again! For anyone that would like to get a head start, the due date for the 2018 Annual Reports will be Monday, January 7, 2019. You can see last year’s Annual Report on our website.

Wreaths & Swags

With Christmas quickly approaching, the Senior Youth will once again be selling wreaths and swags door to door in the neighbourhood. Watch for our sweet smiling faces. Thank you for helping to support our Scholarship Fund. Contact Stu Roche @ 204-487-1436.
Outreach

Spare Change Sunday

The last Sunday of every month is Spare Change Sunday. Our spare change will go to 1JustCity-Oak Table. They have found a supplier who will provide underwear for $2.00 per pair. Let's see how many we can provide!

Give a Toonie

December is a time of giving! Giving just one toonie supplies a soup and sandwich for someone in need. A toonie tube is at the back of the church for anyone who wants to give. The money goes to Oak Table -1JustCity .
Community Announcements

Ring in the Holidays

You are invited to get into the mood of Christmas by attending the "Ring in the Holidays" Concert on Saturday, December 15 at 7:30pm at Broadway-First Baptist Church. The Rochester Ringers, a community group directed by Stuart Sladden, Broadway-First Baptist Handbells directed by Susan Stevenson and Ring Out Quartet  will  be featured.  Admission by donation.

Christmas with the Phil

The Winnipeg Philharmonic Choir presents Christmas with the Phil: Here we come a-caroling on Sunday, December 16 at Crescent Fort Rouge church at 3 pm and at 7 pm, with guest artists Wes Elias, organ and the Stevenson-Britannia School choir. On the program are excerpts from John Rutter’s Magnificat, the Hallelujah chorus and many other carols, as well as the traditional sing-along. Tickets available at McNally Robinson, online at thephil.ca or from Linda Feasby in the church choir.

Steve Bell Christmas Concert

A Steve Bell Christmas Concert will be held on December 15 at Church of Christ, 170 St. Mary's Ave. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at Hull's Family Bookstore or online at www.stevebell.com.

Fort Garry United Church

The Longest Night Service on Friday, December 21, 7:00 pm @ Fort Garry United Church, 800 Point Road. A service of Remembering! Feeling sad or lonely at this time of the year? You are not alone. In this service of remembrance, we will turn to God, the source of hope and healing while naming our losses.

Harrow United Church

Monday morning Yoga with Jane Carroll at Harrow United Church, 955 Mulvey Avenue. The winter session will run from January 7th to March 18th (no class on February 18th, Louis Riel Day). The full fee for this 10 week course is $60 and the drop-in fee is $7.  Hope to see you there.

A Longest Night / Blue Christmas service will be held at 7:30pm on Wednesday, December 19 at Harrow United Church. This is a peaceful, contemplative time for anyone who needs comfort at this time of year. You are invited to join us for an evening of candlelight, scripture, music and silence. All are welcome. 

Information on Care-giving - Presented by Kelsie Dueck, Program Coordinator, Care-giving with Confidence. The Community Health and Well-being Program will take place at Temple Shalom, 1077 Grant Ave. at 1:30, Wednesday, January 9, 2019. All are welcome, especially those over 55. Entrance is free. Refreshments provided.
