Welcome to The Bone Blog!

Hi Friends:Jackson Orthopedic Foundation

Happy Holidays from JOF! We wish you and your favorite people a wonderful holiday and a great 2019! We have had an excellent year, and hope you did, too. Our recent 20th Anniversary & Inaugural Canes Film Festival benefit celebration was so much fun—for us, our summer interns cum filmmakers, and our delightful audience. During the year, we offered several excellent workshops to clinical professionals. We are currently revising our Orthopedic Primary Care course to enhance its online aspects and to make it more accessible and affordable to working healthcare providers. Please watch for updates.

JOF Karin S. Selbach Fund: In 2018, as part of our 20th anniversary celebration, we established the Jackson Orthopedic Foundation Karin S. Selbach Fund with a generous donation from one of our founders, Jerrald R. Goldman, MD. This fund will enable us to offer scholarships to JOF programs and workshops. You can learn more about the fund and how to donate to our educational efforts here. We are reaching out to JOF friends today and during this holiday season as part of our year-end giving campaign.

See You at CANP in March? We hope to see you at the California Association for Nurse Practitioners 42nd Annual Educational Conference in San Diego (March 14–17, 2019). JOF principal AJ Benham will be presenting two sessions on “The Painful Spine” on Friday, March 15, and JOF will have an exhibitor booth at the conference. Scroll down for details, and please sign up, as AJ is always informative and inspiring!

Orthopedic Injection Workshop in April: We will be offering our all-day Orthopedic Injection Workshop in Oakland on Saturday, April 24. We’ll share details about this valuable hands-on workshop in our January newsletter and in our social media posts.

Integrative Medicine Symposium: Our friends at Touro University California in Vallejo invite you to attend the first bay-wide Integrative Medicine Symposium on Sunday, January 6, 2019. This all-day interdisciplinary event brings together healthcare professionals, students and the general public to learn about multidisciplinary approaches in integrative practices driving the future of medicine. Lectures on the microbiome, integrative medicine for the underserved, and psychedelic use in mental health care are available for all attendees. Three learning tracks are offered. Credit is available for attending clinicians. You can find more information or register here.

We hope you find our newsletter useful, and we invite you to continue to engage with us on social media.

As always, if you have comments or questions, please write to us at info@jacksonortho.org or call 510.238.4851.

Yours in good health,
Kathleen Geier, DNP, and AJ Benham, DNP

Let's Hear from Our JOF Summer Interns!

We are very proud of all 8 of our 2018 JOF Summer Interns, who were very hard-working and quite serious about getting everything possible from their 6-week immersion experience in healthcare careers that our internship program offers each year.

We asked our interns how they felt about the experience of shadowing experienced providers as they treat patients. This short video by staff member Tom Wagner features their comments. We think you’ll enjoy it.
