I do not believe in miracles.
I rely on them.”

RISING UP

WITH SIRI RISHI KAUR

Q: Siri Rishi, you have given us a year of gong delight! This coming weekend session promises to be nothing short of spectacular too. What can students(both new and experienced) expect during your last powerful hour of sound of the year?

SRK: This last Gong will be held on Dec 22nd, 1 day after Winter Solstice. Winter Solstice is actually one of the most powerful days of the year, and is seen as a closing of the year. The beauty of the Gong Bath is you really are required to do absolutely nothing accept allow yourself to relax deeply and give yourself permission to receive. So this last Gong is intended to completely release the year and all that came with it as we prepare for 2019.

Q: You seal your Saturday restorative and kundalini Practices with the Gong in class each week. Does the Gong affect each class differently?

SRK: The Gong is always different every time I play it. It's an intuitive instrument... so I allow my intuition to guide me with what the group energy needs. The Group Energy is different so the sound of the Gong effects us differently in each class. Just the way our practice takes us to a new awareness within ourself each time we practice. It's the perfect component to savanna because it restores and resets all of our body systems. It harmonizes all of the subtle fields of our body and mind. Sound is one of the most effective healing agents that we have, it's even healing me as I play it.

Q: What sort of training did you do to learn the Gong? And how long have you been playing?

SRK: I've been playing the Gong for 13 years, the Gong is a very big part of Kundalini Yoga. One of my mentors Dharam Singh is a Gong Master, it was through his transmission that I really started exploring and understanding my way of playing the Gong. I would also watch all of my teachers play the Gong and was able to see how each person had their own style. My training with the Gong over the last 13 years of playing has really been more of an explorative intuitive training. The Gong requires us to listen and to be sensitive to the energy and sound in the room as we are playing it, I'm still discovering and exploring new ways to play the Gong, so the training is on going.

Q: We heard from a little bird that you’ll be taking over the Saturday CBD Yoga with Sitar class this winter. This class has been such a delicious weekend treat for so many since its debut. Give us three words that sneak peek what you teaching it will bring.

SRK: Explorative + Intentional + Reset
GONG
Join Siri Rishi Kaur for this magical hour of sound.
The Gong has long been used as a vibrational therapy
tool used to aid the body on a physical, mental,
emotional and spiritual level.

Gong is a musical instrument which is an effortless way
to tune us into the divine. It creates an ocean of sound
that is profoundly relaxing; a state which activates the
parasympathetic nervous system to balance the over-amped,
over-taxed sympathetic nervous system.

So come in, lie down, let go and let the sound of the gong
do the work as it bathes your body, mind and soul.

HEIDI’S SHOP PICK FOR THE HOLIDAYS

The dreamcatchers I bring to the store each year are handwoven outside of Tulum, Mexico. The women who weave them bring such love, passion and renewed tradition to their work and I believe each dreamcatcher carries a tiny piece of their soulful energy back here.
I love giving these special finds to friends, especially at the holidays. What better gift than a reminder to dream!
