FILM: THURSDAY, DECEMBER 13

Join us on Thursday, December 13th for the documentary, Tapped! We postponed this one due to the exciting weather in November, and we are glad to get a chance to screen it as our final film of the 2018 season.

Tapped looks into the bottled water industry and its long-term effects socially, economically and ecologically. The filmmakers focused on industry giants such as PepsiCo and Nestlé Waters, visiting a town with a Nestlé factory, as well as running tests on the bottles the company uses for its products. Their results came back showing "several potentially harmful chemicals, some known carcinogens". The documentary also focuses on the amount of bottles that are recycled, noting that "Forty percent of bottled water is really just filtered tap water, and every day we throw away 30 million single-served bottles of water as plastic waste. In addition, the issue of privatization of our water supply is addressed."

Doors will open at 6 p.m. on Thursday, December 13th for a community potluck dinner. We encourage you to bring your favorite holiday (or non-holiday) dish to share as well as plates and silverware to cut down on waste.

Shortly after dinner, we will start the film, which will be followed by  a discussion with our guests: Teresa Sweeney; education and training coordinator of Montgomery Regional Solid Waste Authority, and Lydeana Martin; Floyd County Community and Economic Development Director.
