Thank you to all the parents/carers and staff who attended the first Ashburnham School Association meeting on Monday. Very positive and productive. The first event is the Jingle Bells sponsored run on Monday 17th. The next meeting is Monday 21st January at 3.45pm- all welcome.

GET YOUR PARENTS, CARERS, UNCLES, AUNTIES AND COUSINS TO SPONSOR YOU FOR THE ASHBURNHAM JINGLE BELL RUN!
This Christmas we are holding the Ashburnham Jingle Bell Sponsored Run to raise money to support the school. In addition to the financial benefits to the school, the event is an extremely valuable experience for children in terms of promoting healthy activity, physical fitness and an appreciation of outdoor activity. Our intention this year is to use the money raised from the sponsored run to support the purchase of further resources across the curriculum to enhance the learning of all our children. The run will take place on Monday 17 December 2018. We are asking all children to get themselves sponsored by parents, carers, brothers, sisters, cousins and friends for every lap they do.  For each class,  the child who raises the most sponsorship money will win a great prize. The run is a very pleasant route around the school playground.  It should take approximately half an hour at a gentle pace and will include an opportunity for children to wear something with a Christmas theme if they wish.  Their teacher will accompany the children on the run and they will also be sponsored. Please encourage your child to start collecting sponsors in order to support this very enjoyable whole school event.
All pupils will have been given a sponsorship form. Copies available at the office.
We say goodbye to our student teachers this week: Ms Clark, Ms Anon, Ms Wakefield and Ms Kim. They have been brilliant and hard-working, and we wish them all the best in their next placement.
Christmas Lunch
All pupils who normally have school lunches will be getting the Winter Feast, including Christmas crackers and three courses of classic roast dinner. If your kids normally have packed lunch but would like to join us on Decemeber 19th, please sign up with the office so you can be set up with a £1.85 (bargain!) payment request via the usual School Gateway payment method.
Speaking of lunches...
If you are changing your lunch schedule in any way, please give the office two week's notice so that the kitchen can adjust their provision.
Christmas Cards
As an eco-friendly school, please can we avoid paper Christmas Cards. If each child bought a card for the whole class, this would equate to roughly 6500 cards across the school. Please put your time and money towards supporting a local charity instead.
Year6 Journalist Report by Iva
Good afternoon Ash!
What a busy week! On Monday, the elderly people have come in to watch the KS1 Little Angel Get Her Wings performance rehearsal.
On Tuesday it was the real things where many parents joined us. Wednesday was a quiet day where nothing much occurred. On Thursday, Y4/5 went to watch Beauty and the Beast the pantomime. On Friday, we had the Winter Disco and also Ms Kim is leaving. See you next week with another report.

Eco Science Committee Report
Good afternoon Ashburnham Community School,

This week the Eco Science Committee have been very busy making a new display to help spread the message of recycling in hope of saving our planet and endangered animals. We have used recycled objects (e.g. bottle lids, table cloths and old paper) to create a display showing the affects of pollution. This display will show exactly why we should recycle, so be sure to see it in the lunch hall. In Science this week, Year 5 have started their unit 'how light works and Year 6 have started a new unit too, all about gravity. Thank you for recycling and have a great week!

Eco Science fact: Did you know that 45% of all plastic bottles used in the UK are not recycled!

Please buy an Ashburnham water bottle to help the environment!

Thanks for your recipes- Keep them coming!
Have you heard? We’re making an Ashburnham Cookbook!
Click here for the recipe template
But we need your recipes! We want a collection of your family's favourites (along with some recipes from staff and local restaurants) to make an Ashburnham community cookbook that we can all use. We want it to be full of artwork by our kids – it could be a drawing of their favourite meal, a family picnic, digging up potatoes – you could make clay food, stick on pasta shapes, anything to do with food. We want photos of pupils cooking, gardening, and of course, eating… And most importantly we need your recipes. What meal does your child plead with you to make? When is the plate always licked clean? It can be a main, a dessert, a starter. It can be from any country, and even in another language (we can get it translated and print the two versions side by side). Just write down how you make it, and hand it in to Ms Lindsay (with pictures if you can, and Ms Morgan can also take photographs of any artwork). There are recipe forms to fill in at the front desk if you don’t have one, or email your recipe to rubybaker@me.com (remember to include ingredients list, quantities and why it’s a favourite).
And don’t forget – all money raised from the sale of this book will go towards fun, inspiring experiences for your child, like the Exotic Animals Encounter last year. But if we don’t get enough recipes, there’s no book, no money, no experiences! Spread the word.
