McLane Elementary PTSO News

December 2018

 Greetings Owls!

Wow!  Its so hard to believe this is the last newsletter of 2018!  The year is just flying by!  We want to give a huge "Thank You" to those who came out to the PTSO meeting this past Monday!  We had a wonderful turn out and we were treated to the sounds of the amazing Advanced Strings of McLane as they played select holiday tunes and other very enjoyable songs, all very beautifully conducted by Mrs. Rydholm.

In school news, McLane Elementary School was awarded the 2018 School of Distinction! This is the first time McLane has ever received this award. Congratulations to our wonderful Principal, Monica West and the rest of our amazing McLane Staff! To read more about this amazing honor click here.

Theater
McLane is partnering up with TOAD (Theater of Arts and Discipline) again this year to present ALADDIN Jr. This year we will only have one theater program for grades 3-5 due to construction. We will be holding mandatory parents meetings on January 3rd & 4th at 6:30 pm in the cafeteria. Please plan on attending one of these meetings if your child is participating. There are only 45 spots available. The price for this year's theater program is $60.00 per child. Also, this year will be the last year for Becka Mondau and Laurie Sale to Co-Chair the Theater Program.   If you would like to get involved and be a part of the program next year and/or be willing to take the lead, please contact Laurie Sale.

Owl Store
This Friday, December 14th, we have another owl store and we would love some volunteers to come setup, help kids make selections and count owl feathers. If you have some free time on Friday morning, we would love to have your help! To sign up to volunteer click here.

Spirit Wear
Last week you should have received order forms for this year's spirit wear selections. We decided to do athletic type material. All Shirts are $22.00 and Hooded Pullovers are $30.00. All spirit wear orders are due Monday, December 17th. You may send in cash or checks payable to McLane PTSO with your child's name on them.  Please get those orders in as soon as you can!

Auction
This year we have been really struggling with getting volunteers for our annual McLane Auction.  The auction is the second of our two big fundraisers of the year, the other being the Read A Thon.   We are in serious need of 3-6 more individuals for this event. If you are able to help with any of items below, please contact Michelle Boden, our communications coordinator. The deadline for committee members to sign up is January 14th at our January PTSO meeting. If we do not get enough help by then, we may not be able to pull it off :-(  See below for where we need the most help:

Donations & Procurement - MOST NEEDED!  We need one or two (Or three!) people to help procure donations of items to be auctioned off.   This is not a difficult task and we have spread sheets of all previous donations so its just a matter of calling and/or visiting the establishment (in local cases) and getting the item sent to the school.

Bid Sheets - This involves typing up each bid sheet that sits in front of each item to be auctioned off.

The Giving Tree event has ended and we would like to thank everyone who participated. Your generosity means a lot to all the families! Thank you McLane!!

The next PTSO meeting is Monday, January 14th at 6:30 pm in the cafeteria. It is a great way to meet other parents and staff members.  This month our Teacher Feature will be the 3rd Grade team, Mr. Oas and Mrs. Hamilton!  As always child care is provided and we strongly encourage you to make sure the little ones are dressed appropriately for the weather as sometimes there is some outside play.

Lastly, we would like to wish all of you a happy and safe holiday season. We will see you in the new year!
