12|13|18 God With Us In The Storms

<<First Name>>

Storms can come up suddenly and catch us completely unaware.  Sometimes we find ourselves in the middle of storms we create, as a result of our own doing like a struggle with addiction or destructive behavior.  Other times the storms we encounter come as the result of a choice someone else made, such as a separation, divorce, or the loss of a job.  And some times, the storm we face no one could see coming, like cancer.  But the storms we encounter in this life don’t have to take us down.

In Luke 8:22-25, the disciples find themselves in the middle of a storm while Jesus is asleep in the boat.  They are in real danger and so they wake Jesus to let them know they are about to drown.  Jesus calms the storm and asks a convicting question, “Where is your faith?”  It never occurred to the disciples that Jesus might be able to save them from the storm.  The wind and the waves were the only thing they could see.

When the storms come often we ask where is God?  But don’t let the presence of a storm cause you to doubt the presence of God.  The disciples are amazed by Jesus because he demonstrated power over the storm, something only God could do.  While God may not calm every storm in our life, we do have hope when we place our trust in Jesus, Immanuel, God With Us.

In Christ’s Service,

Pastor Gordon
