Homestead Harvest News

December 13, 2018

All the snow has turned to mud on the farm but you can experience the beauty in the newsletter this week. We got 11 to 12 inches over the course of the day Sunday. Snow means more work and stress for the animals. Luckily we only lost 2 young chickens from the cold and wet weather. This is the early snow precipitation; notice how quiet.. Video

Deliveries in the Raleigh area this week will be Friday morning, Dec. 14th, at the Lynnwood Collection shopping center near the old Kroger gas pumps (corner of Lynn and Creedmoor Roads) at Noon, and at the Falls Pointe shopping center in the

Kohl's parking lot (corner of Durant and Falls of Neuse Roads) at 1pm.  Please contact Jan if you would like anything.

We will be at the Carrboro Winter Market on Saturday, Dec. 15, from 9am to Noon. We will also attend Dec. 22nd and take the 29th off.

On the Farm....
The weight of the snow threatens to collapse the coups (above) before the snow is removed (right).
Below is the Farm version of "Two turtledoves". These two regret the decision to sleep in the tree!
Where the Cows are....
The Cows are wintering at a farm nearby. We took care of the birds in the morning and didn't get to the cows until the afternoon. You will notice in the videos the snow changed over to sleet and frozen rain. The big cows take shelter from the wind near the hay feeder. Video. We needed 4 wheel drive vehicles to check on the cows. Farm video and Road video.
