Presentations: Affordable Housing

At Tuesday's meeting, Council received two presentations calling for solutions to affordable housing and homelessness in Niagara and resolved to revisit the issue in the new year. Hugo Chesshire (Policy and Government Relations Manager, Greater Niagara Chamber of Commerce) spoke to the economic benefits of affordable housing and Lori Beech (Executive Director, Bethlehem Housing) provided statistics supporting the need for affordable housing and offered possible solutions. Deb Nanson also addressed Council about the issues of affordable housing and homelessness, which are the focus of her project, 1-2-3 Exit.

Public Meeting: Zoning By-law Amendments

Council approved the City-initiated amendments to Zoning By-laws with respect to the term "family" and additional regulations regarding wall heights and permitted encroachments for accessory buildings containing second units.

Report: Review of Provincial Cannabis Licensing Act, 2018
and Regulation 468.18

At Tuesday's meeting, Council voted to defer their decision on whether to stay in or opt out of the Provincial Retail Cannabis Store program until the next Council meeting, which is scheduled for January 15, 2019.

BoxRun Toy Drive
Help KO childhood cancer and spread holiday cheer with BoxRun founder and City Councilor Mike Strange on December 17 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Boston Pizza on Morrison Street. Donations of new, unwrapped toys for children of all ages are greatly appreciated.

Canadian Blood Services will run a blood donor clinic at the Optimist Club on Monday, December 31st from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
50th Anniversary of Meals on Wheels
Since the early 1960s, Meals on Wheels volunteers of Niagara Falls have been providing home delivery of nutritious, well-balanced and affordable meals, good company, and independence to seniors and people with mental and physical challenges.
