Dear Friend,

Christmas is almost upon us - a time of celebration; a time of joy and a time of love. But for more and more people, just like four year old Phoebe and her father, the festive period was an incredibly stressful time last year.

A few days before the Christmas holidays, Phoebe’s world was turned upside down when her mum was unexpectedly taken into hospital. Phoebe’s dad, David who had lived apart from them for several years, became the main carer overnight.

Being on a low income, David found the sudden change in circumstances hard. He struggled to make ends meet, heat his home and put food on the table. He simply couldn’t afford the basics anymore.

David found help after being referred to his local foodbank. The volunteers there were able to provide them both with the emergency food they needed to keep going as well as a couple of gifts for Phoebe to unwrap on Christmas morning.  On that cold winters night, the foodbank offered so much more than just food; it offered reassurance, support and most importantly hope.

Sadly we’re hearing more and more stories like Phoebe’s. This December, we expect more people than ever through the doors of foodbanks across the UK.

No one should need a foodbank’s help. A gift of £10 this Christmas could help us work towards a future where no one goes hungry. Your support can help us better understand the causes that lock people into poverty and campaign to create long-term solutions to end hunger in the UK.

Wishing you a very happy Christmas and all the best for 2019.

Yours sincerely
