Don't Think the Only Outcome is You in a White Coat Stuffed in a Lab!”

Jordan Knapp-Wilson, Class of 2019

The epiphany came during his first semester in college, in the middle of his philosophy class’ final exam. When it hit him, Jordan Knapp-Wilson, class of 2019, got up from his chair, picked up his exam, crumbled it and threw it in the trash on his way out of class. He got in his 1981 VW Vanagon and drove until he ran out of gas.

MCB students are focused, taking their finals and wrapping up the semester! The advising office hosted a Waffles and Ice Cream social just before finals to help students relax, socialize and get geared up for finals!

Faculty News

Dr. Neil Mendelson, a beloved MCB faculty member, passed away on September 16, 2018. Neil came to the UA in 1969. Many of our alumni may remember Neil and his sense of humor, and his kind and caring interactions with his colleagues and students

 

Tucson.com profiled Dr. Megha Padi, Assistant Professor, Molecular and Cellular Biology and Director, Arizona Cancer Center Bioinformatics Shared Resource in a recent article. Padi is the fifth faculty member the MCB Department has hired recently that has expertise in Systems Biology. Padi is using her computational biology and physics background to build network models to help determine more effective disease treatments.

Read about how The Authentic Inquiry through Modeling in Biology (AIM-Bio) curriculum can engage students in authentic scientific practices through an iterative cycle of model generation, testing and revision. A team of scientists in MCB conducted research using AIM-Bio curriculum and discovered students experienced measurable gains in their nature of science understanding and is a potential alternative to more resource-intensive curricula.
