12|6|18 God With Us In The Wilderness

<<First Name>>

I had hunted the property many times.  I knew the area well.  I also had a hunch where the deer had gone.  All I needed to do, was work my way through the thick stuff and I would be able to pick up the blood trail on the other side.  I instinctively led the way through the dark.  I just needed to push straight through the thick stuff and I would come out the other side.  But after about ten to fifteen minutes of fighting our way through, my son suddenly cried out, “We are lost!  We are just walking in circles.”  I looked, sure enough, he was right.  The arrow in the ground signaled that we ended up right where we had started.

I tried to reassure him that we were okay.  I even pulled out the phone to show him exactly where we were on the map.  I let him know he could trust me, that we would get through this.  But when you find yourself wandering in the wilderness, it is easy to lose your way and allow the fears to take over.  What began as an exciting hunting adventure was now filled with fear and tears.

If you have ever found yourself wandering around in the wilderness, it is nice to know we are not alone.  In those moments it is nice to know we have a guide, someone who will show us the way and help get us to where we need to be.  Because he knew me and trusted me, my son and I were able to continue the journey.

We all will face wilderness moments in life.  These moments will test our faith.  They will reveal something about who we are.  But they also help us better understand who God is.  Knowing God is with us can bring peace in the midst of chaos, and may even help us discover that our greatest need can become a gift when we depend on God.  Whether you are walking through a valley, find yourself wandering in the wilderness, or are searching for peace, I hope you will join us this week as we continue our series, God With Us.

In Christ’s Service,

Pastor Gordon

PS - Although we did not find the deer that night (the coyotes howling got to my son), I was able to retrieve the deer in the morning
