Family Night Out at Chipotle!
The December Family Night Out will be on Tuesday, Dec. 11 at Chipotle, 6602 Glenwood Ave., from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Print out the flier, show it on your phone or just tell the cashier you're there supporting Hilburn Academy when you check out, and 33% of sales will be donated to Hilburn PTA. Thanks for coming to our annual Book Fair! Check out these photos from our Tuesday evening "Hometown Heroes" night with Hawksome special guest readers! We hope the fair encouraged everyone's love of reading. We were able to get $4,200 in books for our library and designated teachers from Bedford Falls Book Fairs! Thank you!

Holiday Treats for Hilburn staff
PTA Staff Appreciation is planning a week of holiday treats for our teachers and staff before winter break! Sign up to send in treats Monday, Dec. 17 through Thursday, Dec. 20. We need donations of home-made and/or store-bought holiday goodies. Anything that reminds you of the holidays- all goodies are welcome!
Each day has a different "treat" to donate. And each day we will need coffee/tea/cocoa for the coffee bar.
On Friday, Dec. 21, PTA is also providing a catered holiday and Teacher//IA of the Year lunch for all staff.

Cultural Arts performance on Dec. 18

The Magic of African Rhythms is the next Cultural Arts performance for students sponsored by your Hilburn PTA.
The Magic of African Rhythms is a Durham-based performing ensemble. The artists are from Guinea, Liberia, and have family ties to Barbados, Jamaica, and Alabama. Their presentation, The Griot’s Gourd is a singing, dancing and drumming adventure guided by the melodies from their storytelling instruments.

Hilburn Hawk CultureFest!
We are looking for several individuals to share ideas and to help plan and coordinate activities for our first ever Hilburn Hawk CultureFest. If you are interested in joining this committee, or would like additional information, please contact PTA President Julie Rivera at Julie.n.rivera@outlook.com.
This is a new committee and responsibilities will include brainstorming ideas around what the event will look like, reaching out into our community of Hawk families to ensure an all-inclusive event that will appeal to all families, and helping to coordinate and plan activities for the event.

Hilburn Academy will have over 50 works of art on display at the State Employee's Credit Union on Hilburn Drive, across from Food Lion and the Launching Pad, now until late February. First, second and third grade students just finished a unit on Georgia O'Keeffe to promote her exhibit at the NC Museum of Art.
This couldn't have been done without the endless hours of help from my parent helper, Ghia Braza. A special thank you to Ghia for helping frame and label all these amazing artworks!!
*All students who have a work of art in the show will get a letter from me by Dec. 14.

Youth Innovation Summit
The Triangle Uplift Foundation is proud to partner with the Triangle Martin Luther King, Jr. Committee and Cary Academy to sponsor the 2019 Youth Innovation Summit. The goal is to reach minority, female, and other underrepresented students by providing an opportunity to be inspired to pursue STEAM-related fields of study. The 2019 event will target students in grades 5-12 in the Triangle area. There will also be STEAM innovation immersion sessions for parents on how to support their students in pursuing STEAM related fields of study.
Who: Students grades 5 -12
When: Saturday, January 19, 2019 – 7:30 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. to align with Martin Luther King Jr. weekend activities.
Where: Cary Academy 1500 N Harrison Ave, Cary, NC 27513
This is a free event – breakfast and lunch will be served. There will also be an essay contest for scholarships. The link to register for the Second Annual Youth Innovation is here.
