The new SHC Learning Center is opening its doors!
Dear friend:
Imagine that you’ve left your country, your family and everything that is familiar to you. Imagine that you don’t speak English. Imagine that you have children under the age of five with you all day at home. These situations are a reality for many refugees living in the DC Metropolitan area.
When an SHC volunteer knocks on a family’s door, more than one door opens, offering:
-
Child friendly English Language Learning Classes, now offered by SHC at two locations in Prince George’s County, and ready to expand in January 2019.
-
A trusted and familiar face the family can to turn to for advice and guidance.
We are proud to say that this year SHC worked with 86 families, answering questions and helping them navigate issues related to beginning a new life in the US. Now, that’s a lot of doors!
As we look ahead to 2019, there is a door that we are especially excited about—The door to SHC’s first office!
The new SHC Learning Center will be a safe and welcoming space where programming is tailored to family needs. The classroom will include a dedicated space for early childhood enrichment activities.
Will you help us open the doors of the new SHC Learning Center in January 2019 with a gift of $50 or more?
With gratitude,
Merritt, Yasmina, Kate and Sarah
