We spent the start of this week at Parliament House in Canberra with Voices for Justice, alongside over 200 Christians from all over Australia who had joined together to call on our leaders to do more for the world's poorest, people trapped in slavery and people who have been forcibly displaced. We were also able to thank our leaders for passing the Modern Slavery Act, which will take effect January 1. You can read more about the week here in Revive.
Voices for Justice is organised by Micah Australia, which is a coalition of churches and faith-based organisations (like our own UnitingWorld) working together to advocate for a more just world.
Our message to our leaders was this:
We want to be generous.
We want to be kind.
We want to be compassionate.
To start this we need to increase aid, ensure strong action against modern slavery and provide support for refugees and people seeking asylum.
Common feedback from Members and Senators is that; if we want to see more action on these topics, they need to hear more from people in their electorates calling for this change. This is where you come in. We need you to write to your leaders. We need as many people as possible to write to their representatives demanding that Australia do more to contribute to a fair and just world. We need to amplify the call for kindness, compassion and generosity.
