Management System Boosted
Yale's Clinical Research


Tesheia Johnson, MBA, MHSAll faculty and staff are invited to learn about a clinical trial management system coming soon to the University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC). Tesheia Johnson, M.B.A., M.H.S., associate director of Clinical Research at the Yale School of Medicine and director and COO of the Yale Center for Clinical Investigation, will share her first-hand experiences deploying the system at Yale and how it transformed their clinical research.
 
Mark Taubman, M.D., URMC dean and CEO, and Martin Zand, M.D., Ph.D., senior associate dean for Clinical Research at URMC and UR CTSI co-director will give opening remarks.

America’s Got Regulatory Science Talent


The sixth annual America’s Got Regulatory Science Talent student competition, scheduled for Wednesday, February 13, 2019, is now accepting applications. Organized by Joan Adamo, Ph.D. and Scott Steele, Ph.D., the competition aims to promote student interest in regulatory science and the winning team will travel to the Washington DC/Maryland region to meet with the FDA.
 
Students matriculated in any classes at the University are welcome to submit a 50-word entry and provide a five-minute presentation during the competition. The proposed solution should align with the FDA Regulatory Science priority areas

Public Health Sciences Research Pilot Applications Requested


The Department of Public Health Sciences is soliciting proposals that support collaborative relationships between investigators and public health sciences faculty. The pilot project should have a substantial component of, or impact on, public health sciences, practices or policies. A maximum of $25,000 may be requested for investigators with no recent joint funding. Submit proposal abstracts by Friday, February 1, 2019.

Reports on Diversity, Bias
and Sexual Misconduct


The University has released its 2018 reports on diversity and inclusionsexual misconduct prevention and response and college bias-related incidents to provide more transparency about issues of diversity, discrimination, and sexual misconduct. It’s the first time the reports have been released together online and in an easy-to-navigate digital format. Print-ready PDFs are available for download. The University has published an annual Diversity Report since 2007. This is the first time that Title IX and bias-related incident reports have been released publicly.
 

2019 Annual Diversity Conference


The 10th annual Diversity Conference will be held on Monday, April 8, 2019 and features Samina Ali, award-winning author, activist, and cultural commentator as the keynote speaker.
 
All are invited to submit workshop proposals and poster submissions for this year’s conference, titled, “Finding the Courage to Lead.”  These should focus on creating interactive experiences around topics of developing fearlessness and resilience to foster inclusive environments as well as exploring how leaders and leadership can affect environments.
 
Workshop Proposals Due: Friday, January 18, 2019, 5:00 pm.
Posters Due: Friday, March 8, 2019.
 

The Opioid Crisis and the Future of Addiction and Pain Therapeutics Symposium


This National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS) symposium will highlight challenges and opportunities throughout the discovery and development process for addiction- and pain-related medications in the pre-competitive/preclinical stage and provide a framework for more focused efforts within the research community. Rare Disease Day at NIH 2019


Sponsored by the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS) and the National Institutes of Health Clinical Center, Rare Disease Day at NIH will feature interactive panel discussions on collective research models for rare diseases, patient registries, rare cancer research initiatives, and No Disease Left Behind, No Patient Left Behind. There will be posters and exhibits by rare disease groups and researchers as well as artwork, videos and tours of the NIH Clinical Center. View the agenda.

Also included are descriptions of recent NIH/ORWH activities concerning women’s health and upcoming events.
