Property Checks During the Holidays

The holiday season and semester break are happening soon.  The Cayuga Heights Police Department would like to remind residents they can register for a Property Check, if they are planning to be away for an extended period of time.  A Property Check consists of a thorough visual review of the property including ensuring doors and windows are secure.  An Officer will plan to do this at least once a week while you are gone.  An application can be found on the village's website or may be obtained at the police department.

For further information, visit our website at www.cayuga-heights.ny.us/police.html or contact the Cayuga Heights Police Department at 607-257-1011.

Have a safe holiday season!

Holiday Safety Tips

This holiday season, please take a moment in preparation for the holiday season to consider some safety tips from The National Safety Council.   A holiday travel emergency kit in your car specially tailored to winter weather can be helpful. Careful attention to decoration planning such as use of ladders, candle use and safe placement of poisonous plants can potentially save the life of a family member or a pet.  Considering toy safety and age appropriate gift giving is also important. Please be safe as you enjoy this wonderful holiday season.  For further tips, please visit https://www.nsc.org/home-safety/tools-resources/seasonal-safety/winter/holiday

Department of Public Works Ready to Respond to Winter Weather

It seems winter weather has had a jump start this year with early snow fall and record low temperatures in November!  Now is the perfect time to check your mailbox and make sure that it is adequately secured to withstand heavy snow accumulations. The Village of Cayuga Heights Department of Public Works (DPW) is ready to respond to winter weather events with two large plow/dump trucks, two medium plow/dump trucks, one loader, and three pick-up trucks outfitted with plows.  The DPW and Village Police monitor forecasts and coordinate efforts to ensure appropriate resources are deployed to Village streets and sidewalks to keep them free of snow and ice.

Willard Straight Hall Tour and Screening

Explore the nooks and crannies of Cornell's student union, Willard Straight Hall, on a guided architectural history tour.  The tour culminates with an insider's view of the Straight's historic theater, where Cornell Cinema Director Mary Fessenden shares the theater's history and architecture.  Two film shorts will follow and light snack and drinks will be provided.  Tour is limited to 20 participants, so buy your tickets soon at http://www.historicithaca.org/the-inside-straight-tour-screening/

Brush Pruning and Leaf Pickup

Brush pruning and leaf pickup will continue through December 15th.  Please DO NOT RAKE YOUR LEAVES INTO THE STREET.  They cause problems for walkers, bikers and cars and impede storm water drainage.   For more information visit the Household and Refuse webpage.
