Capital Press Reading Activity

Another in the series of Oregon Agriculture in the Classroom non-fiction text examples to be used in your classroom. These will be available every Friday morning at 7 a.m. during the school year.

Article: When every job’s a custom job (Page 2)

Questions:

  1. What is Lonny's business? 
  2. How did Lonny get started with his business? What need does his work fulfill? 
  3. What skills or qualities have helped Lonny be successful? 
  4. How does Lonny's business support his local community? 
  5. In your opinion, what is desirable about Lonny's job? 
 


Answers: 

  1. Lonny creates custom agriculture parts as well as metallic artwork for clients. 
  2. He started his business when his dad needed a silage semi-trailer and Lonny built one, eventually others wanted custom trailers and it became a business. 
  3. Answers will vary. He has a degree in manufacturing engineering technology with a welding emphasis and he's creative and willing to go above-and-beyond for farmers. 
  4. He purchases his supplies from local businesses and also helps farmers be able to make repairs quickly and therefore not lose too much time. 
  5. Answers will vary. He's able to be creative, innovative and no two days are the same.
