MISSION

A space for groups and individuals to engage in recreational, social, educational, cultural, community service, civic and governmental activities

First Studio Renter, Georgene Riedl Reflects

“I was so excited when I first heard there was a possibility the former Harwich Middle School might be repurposed as a cultural center with studio spaces for artists. It is a dream come true for any artist to have an affordable workspace and to be able to retreat from day-to-day work and household responsibilities to think and create in a supportive space and community.

I am so happy I acted quickly and rented Studio #106 as soon as rooms were available. I still feel that same exciting anticipation that great things are about to happen every time I walk into the Harwich Cultural Center.”

Harwich Pickleball Thrives Indoors in Cold Weather

Harwich Pickleball started about five years ago, as a “grassroots” activity for a quickly growing national sport with play at Brooks Park during summer months. When the middle school became an abandoned building, Frank Crowley, Vice-Chairman of the Recreation Commission, saw the opportunity to use the school's gymnasium as a winter venue so the rapidly growing number of participants could play all year long. Harwich Pickleball became one of the first tenants to move into the building.

Harwich Pickleball is held Monday - Friday from 8:00 AM to noon, with noon to 1:30 PM reserved for lessons and clinics. Evening pickleball is held Monday and Friday nights from 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM.

Harwich Residents can register for winter indoor pickleball ($50/day program or $35/evening program) at the Harwich Community Center Recreation Department, 100 Oak Street. Contact Susan Fraser, Harwich Recreation Department at (508) 430-7554 or sfraser@town.harwich.ma.us for more information.

New Harwich Resident Enjoys Studio at Harwich Cultural Center

Carolyn Dunford recently joined the community of artists at the Harwich Cultural Center. Originally from Massachusetts, she and her artist spouse, Marc Bohne, recently relocated to Harwich after nearly 30 years in Seattle. Carolyn paints in oil, encaustic, and acrylic, primarily in the abstract and still life genres. Carolyn’s studio, A-09, is usually open on Friday mornings from 10:00 AM to noon, and by appointment. Learn more about Carolyn online: http://carolyndunford.com/.

Indoor Meditative Labyrinth Walks

Indoor Meditative Labyrinth Walks with Facilitators Dr. Margaret Rappaport and Darlene T. Hagon are held the second Friday of each month at 10:00 AM. Free and open to the public.

Each walk has a theme to aid people in appreciating and discussing their experiences with the labyrinth. Sharing the labyrinth with others in conversation often requires words that convey the meaning and significance in the practice of walking the labyrinth, alone or in groups. Programs are an opportunity to encounter the labyrinth as a “walking meditation tool for personal and professional transformation and community building” on a consistent basis.

January's theme: Defining Your Life While Walking the Labyrinth. For additional information call (508) 240-1112 or email info@atsixesandsevensmultimedia.com.
