Every Child Ready to Read!
Every Child Ready to Read, a nation-wide, research-based program, is composed of five simple practices that can help your child get ready for reading. Each month we'll share one fun new tip for each practice.

READ
Research is showing that growing up with a large home library has numerous long-term benefits. Children with access to more books had higher literacy, numeracy (using math in everyday life), and digital communication levels. Obviously there is more going on then just having more books, but it's definitely a start. Check out Smithsonian Mag's article for more information!

SING
You don't have to be an experienced opera diva to teach your child to sing. You don't have to be a "good" singer at all. Thought.co has some awesome games and strategies that will help get you and your child singing away!

WRITE
Mo Willems, infamous children's author, has a fun practice that would be great for practicing writing. He covers his dining room table with butcher paper and everytime you sit down - for a meal, for a break, just because - is an invitation to draw. Here's some examples of the Willems' family's dining room doodles.

TALK
The First Words Project is studying children and how they acquire language. One of their findings is the 16 gestures that children acquire over their first 16 months of life. Those 16 gestures are indicators of a child's future skills with language. Here's a link to their "lookbook" that explains those gestures in easy to understand ways.

PLAY
One of my new favorite websites is GoNoodle! It's a free website (though you do have to register) that has fun videos that get your family up and moving! GoNoodle turns screen time into active time, creates great family fun, and makes your home healthier.
