January 2019 Newsletter

From Mr. Phillips, Head of School

Happy New Year!  A new year means new beginnings, and my family and I are excited about our new beginning and the opportunity we have to join Curtis Baptist School. I want to thank you for your prayers during this time of transition. We look forward to partnering with our families and working with the faculty and staff to provide each student a Christ-centered education and a great overall school experience.

As we begin 2019, I would encourage you all to make it a goal to pray for Curtis Baptist School on a daily basis. Pray for the faculty and staff and pray that God will continue to bless CBS.

- Mr. Scott Phillips, Head of School

You are invited to attend a welcome reception for Mr. Phillips and his family on Sunday, January 6, from 8:30 am - 9 am in the Church Ministry Center.  You will also have a chance to meet them at the Homecoming Games on Friday, January 11, at Cheeks Gym.

Daycare & Preschool News

Happy New Year! The holiday season may be over, but we are still in the midst of flu season. Please help us keep the germs away, and remember to wash your child’s hands upon entering the classroom. To help reduce the spread of illnesses, please inform us when your child is sick so we can be sure to disinfect and keep an eye out for symptoms in other children. Also, if you haven’t already done so, check with your child’s classroom to be sure they have an extra set of winter clothing if there is ever a need to change clothes.

- Mrs. Avia Stocker, Daycare & Preschool Director

Middle & High School News

Wow, the holidays have come and gone, and we have only eighteen weeks of school remaining in this school year. For Middle and High school students, next semester will be packed with events and opportunities, along with academic responsibilities. Be sure to stay up to date using the CBS web site, RenWeb, and email.

We hope that you will make plans to attend the Homecoming Ceremony at Cheeks Gym on Friday, January 11. We will be introducing the Homecoming Court and crowning our King and Queen. On January 29th, we will host Senior Night to recognize our seniors, many of whom will be playing their final home basketball game as a Crusader.

On behalf of our MS/HS faculty and staff, we wish you a Happy New Year.

- Mr. Larry Ford, Middle and High School Principal

Guidance News

An admissions representative from Bob Jones University will be coming to campus on January 22 during the high school lunch period to meet with students and answer any questions they might have about college and the admissions process.

We Are Curtis:
Reaching Out in Service to Others

“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms” –1 Peter 4:10

At Curtis, we want to develop bold servant leaders.  As the calendar year comes to a close and the second half of the school year begins, we would like to reflect and put a spotlight on some of the wonderful service projects the Curtis school community has been a part of.
  • Elementary students collect cans weekly in chapel for the Curtis Baptist Church food pantry
  • Twice a quarter, elementary students read to daycare students
  • 5th graders helped Kindergarteners pick out items at the Book Fair
  • Over $3,200 was collected for Breast Cancer Awareness during the month of October
  • Student Council collected and delivered supplies to patients in the ICU
  • 4th graders and Elementary Learning Place students collected socks for veterans
  • Students and families from preschool through high school assembled boxes for Operation Christmas Child

  • Throughout the year, the Middle School Learning Place collects can-tabs/pop-tops for the Ronald McDonald House
  • 9th grade students serve monthly lunch to Happy 39’ers
  • Students meet weekly for Monday morning prayer with Mr. Kulig
  • Daycare, elementary and upper school teachers provide refreshments 3 times per semester for the GAP Class

Looking ahead, our students will have the chance to participate in many more service projects including these:
  • The Beta Club will be collecting Pennies for Patients during the Spring
  • 2nd graders are donating baby gifts to the Augusta Care Pregnancy Center in January
  • Middle School students will beautify the Broad Street side of the Church
  • Beta Club members will serve as Tour Guides at our CBS Open House on February 7
