FAMELAB
Famelab is an exciting competition to pitch your research. The format is similar to talent shows on TV. Contestants have just three minutes to charm the audience and jury with clear scientific content, without use of audiovisual presentations. Presentations are judged on three criteria: Content, Clarity and Charisma. FameLab® is a registered trade mark of Cheltenham Festivals. It is organized by the British Council.
Trainings are offered beforehand and are organised by the AMC Graduate School.

I’d like to have you attention for my research project on the learning climate of PhD candidates. Since august 2018 I’m conducting research on the training of these young scientific researchers within the AMC. There are complaints about the quality of this training but also on the supervision and well-being of PhD candidates. From literature it is expected that the improvements of the quality of the training can be made via the learning climate. That’s where my research comes in. The aim of it is to develop a tool that monitors the learning climate at the level of research groups. With the use of this tool, institutions are offered help for optimizing the learning climate, in order to increase the quality of education for PhD’s.

In order to proceed with in this study, I need your help. For the next phase, I am organizing focus groups that help to check and complement the literature study. The focus groups will be sceduduled in january and february and are composed of PhD-candidates, supervisors ánd promotors. However, your opinions and experiences are needed to get a complete view of what a PhD trajectory really looks like.

If you want your opinion and experience to be heard, please don’t hesitate and sign up for one of the focus groups. You can sign up by e-mailing me (
c.j.vermeulen@amc.uva.nl) with your name, the division/department you are in, your native language and the number of years that you are in PhD-training.

Let's do this together! Thanks in advance.
Renée Vermeulen
