Investment & Fundraising Update

We received a very generous donation last year to allow us to restore our most precious processional banners. One is now with the conservator, with the other due to be started on in June. Both should be back - and available to view - by the end of this year.

We continue to pay the fees of our architects and have got to the stage of submitting 'visuals', i.e. artist's impressions of what the various improvements we suggest could look like. These should be on display at St Giles' from the Castle Hill Open Day (see below) on 13 July onward.

Thank you again to everyone who contributed to the window fund. A more sensitive, less invasive and also less expensive way of conserving and restoring the windows is under active consideration. We hope to be able to give the go-ahead to start work before the end of 2019 for the most essential work

We are particularly grateful to the Family & Executors of the late Cpt Edward Lawrence KStJ, who have donated the gifts made in conjunction with his memorial service to the Friends. Various precious items which were in the possession of Captain Lawrence will be sold on the Friends' behalf.

Facts & Figures

We raised over £21000 in 2018, bringing the total the Friends have raised for St Giles’ to over £38500.

For 2019-21 we have pledges of £19000.

92% of the money raised by the Friends for St Giles’ is given by people that are not on the electoral roll of the parish, so we are making a real difference to this historic and beautiful church. Without the Friends, a lot of things would not be happening.

There are still seats available on the bus to Norwich this Saturday. £25/£30, inlcuding a visit to the Shrine of Julian of Norwich. Leave Cambridge at 9am, for a 5.30pm return.  Inquire
