Portuguese Way, Morocco and Egypt
Our last trip of 2018 certainly lived up to everyone’s expectations.
I was accompanied by 14 wonderful enthusiastic women of which 70 per cent were return guests of Lyn Taylor’s Adventure Travel. I think in saying this, I can speak for everyone who went to Spain and Portugal with me that the Portuguese Way was the highlight of our trip. Boasting stunning coastlines and fantastic cities, such as Lisbon, Porto, and Pontevedra, the Camino Portugues has loads to offer. There are several important pilgrimage towns, such as Tui, as well as some of the most picturesque beaches in the world.
Those who continued with me to Morocco and also joined the tour in Morocco the highlight was the sheer diversity of this trip, combined with unique accommodation and fabulous food and retail therapy.
Some of us had the opportunity to travel to Egypt, where we found the history and culture so rich, that we were so taken back by the sheer grandiosity of the pyramids. Just standing under them and looking up for the first time takes your breath away. The blocks on the base are taller than most people and weigh about a ton and a half, so you can imagine what it was like moving them at the time. It’s a masterful an engineering project. We traveled between Luxor and Aswan, on one of the largest boats on the Nile, the water was clean and deep blue and the shoreline green and full of palm trees and bushes, but if you looked beyond, there was the orange desert on both sides. We visited the Abu Simbel temple, the Temple of Edfu, which is dedicated to Horus, and the temple of Kom Ombo. Not to be missed was Alexandria and the Valley of the Kings.
Egypt has a lot to offer and is now registered as a safe destination, whilst there we felt entirely safe, the locals were friendly and happy to see tourists returning to their country. My advice is not to leave it too late to visit, in another few years ,the country will be overcrowded with tourists. Best time to travel to Egypt is November with a comfortable temp of around 26-28 deg. Do not attempt to travel in Egypt solo, group travel is easier and safer.
