End of Term Newsletter

21.12.18
Thank you for a fantastic term!

After such a wonderful week which included a fantastic production of Cinderella; a brilliant and very busy 'Stay & Play' in Reception class; many Nursery parent tours by the Pupil Ambassadors; a ‘Friends of Avonmore Disco’ that was described as ‘the best ever’ by some very excited Y5 children and a Junior Choir performance at the BBC, we are all ready for a well deserved, restful break.

In assembly today, we reflected on all the people who make Avonmore the fantastic place it is to work and learn in and the children were encouraged to say thank you throughout the day to the adults that work in school- the teachers, cleaners, office staff, lunch time staff, teaching assistants, student teachers and all the volunteers that mean we can ensure the best possible learning is taking place.

A big thank you from all the staff to all the parents, carers, grandparents, siblings and family friends that support the children at home and give their time, energy and donations into our school.

Avonmore would not be the warm hearted and community spirited place that it is without the continued support from you all.

We wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

AVONMORE'S NEW HOUSES

The children in Pupil Council are delighted to announce the names of Avonmore’s new houses: Laurence Lowry, Bridget Riley, Mikela Henry-Lowe and Frank Bowling. These people are all important and influential British artists, and are all linked to our enriching art curriculum. The children have a special take-home task based on their new house, which is detailed in their curriculum letter.

This week, our Junior Choir gave a superb performance of their Christmas carols at the BBC Television centre. They have worked very hard all term to learn their words and actions to the songs and their singing was absolutely beautiful. Well done!

Learning around Avonmore this week

The children in Nursery were both delighted and surprised to have a very special visit from Santa. They each received a gift. Well done Nursery for a fantastic Autumn Term!

Reception had a fun week with lots of Christmas related learning. They enjoyed a visit from Father Christmas and have been busy making gingerbread slime.

Year 1 have had a week full of endless fun and excitement. They have enjoyed a visit and gifts from Santa, a disco and lots of learning about Christmas.

This week Year 2 have been working hard designing, making and testing their own water pumps in DT to great success. We have also written a letter as part of our literacy unit on 'The Bear and the Piano'. Enjoy your break Year 2!

Key Stage 2 enchanted us with their production of Cinderella, a vibrant and funny reworking of this classic fairy tale. They sang and danced with energy and the show was a joy to watch. The raffle raised £161 which will go to support further events. Yesterday, saw the end of term disco with a professional DJ kindly organised by our reinvigorated PTA.  A huge thank you everyone who has helped make this final week of term so entertaining and memorable.
