Weekly eNews -  December 14, 2018
Sunday, December 23:
The Fourth Sunday of Advent

Please order your Christmas flowers to honor or remember your loved ones
and to bless our Sanctuary with the color of the season!

Click here to order them. (Last chance is Sunday.)

8:00 AM – Holy Eucharist, Rite II, spoken

9:15 AM - EDUCATION FOR ALL AGES
Children:
Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (Downstairs, Age 3 – Kindergarten)
                  Godly Play (Downstairs, Grades 1 – 4)

Youth:    Rite 13 (Across from Library, Grades 5 – 7)

Journey to Adulthood (Rector’s Office, Grades 8 – 12)

Adults:   "What Are You Waiting For?" with The Rev. Joslyn Schaefer.
This question has two meanings.  In one sense, it encourages us to take risks
and “go for our dreams.”  In another sense, it points to hopes and desire that
may or may not be fulfilled.  Come explore how the
Advent season encourages holy waiting.

Nursery care is available from 9:15-11:45 am.

10:30 AM Eucharist, Rite II, with music

Coffee Hour follows 8:00 service.
(No one signed up to host after the 10:30 am service.)

Christmas Party & Greening of the Church
Sunday from 4:00 – 6:00 pm.

There are sign-up sheets in Thatcher Hall on the front bulletin board
where you may indicate if you can join us for dinner
in addition to the Greening of the Church.
Children’s activities will be available.
All are welcome, including your guests.
We want to know how many tables and places to set
for dinner so be sure to sign up.
Please also indicate what you plan to bring (soup, bread, salad, or dessert).

Christmas Eve Services

4:00 pm for Festival Eucharist and the
Holy Gospel presented by the
children and youth (a.k.a. Christmas Pageant).

All children – visiting grandchildren, friends, neighbors – are encouraged to participate in the pageant, as an angel, shepherd or animal.  We have plenty of costumes!

Costume dressing and practice will be at 3:00 pm in Thatcher Hall.

The goal of our “stress-free” pageant is to have each child be a part of the
re-creation of the Christmas Story as told in Luke's Gospel.
Please email Mary Hartman to let her know
if your children will be able to participate.

7:00 pm for Festival Eucharist with Candlelight, preceded at 6:40 pm by special music.

Christmas Day Service
10:00 am

Come as you are!

Pajamas are welcome.
This will be a casual service with some of your favorite Christmas hymns.
Let us all enjoy worshipping together on this most sacred day.
Epiphany - Burning of the Greens
Sunday, January 6, 9:15 am

Bring a branch from your wreath or Christmas tree and join us at 9:15 am on
Epiphany Sunday to symbolize the end of Christmas and
the beginning of Epiphanytide, when we celebrate Christ's light in the world.
All are welcome!
Newcomers' Gathering
January 10, 7:00 pm

Join us at Bocelli's (diagonally across the street from the Church) for an informal get-together.
The Rector and other Grace Church leaders will be there to welcome you,
answer questions, and to just share a meal.
Loving our Neighbor

One of our neighbors, within a mile of the parish,
is in need of assistance due to various challenges.
Parishioner Natalie Bayless is pulling together a team
that could make a big difference.  We need a truck for
hauling trash and a team to do some simple home
repairs including adding a stable railing to the front steps.
Email Natalie Bayless if you can pitch in.  We’d like to offer this help in early January.
Understanding Opioid Addiction
Saturday, January 26th, 11:00 am

Grace Church will be hosting this Social Issues Forum  with experts from
Haywood County on hand to help all of us understand addiction, in general,
and opioids, more specifically.  Our hope is that all
who attend will grow in knowledge and compassion.
Brunch will be served.
Icons in Transformation
April 28 until June 16

Grace Church will be hosting an internationally acclaimed art exhibit.
A variety of lectures, showings, and contemplative prayer times will be available.
Tell your neighbors.  You won't want to miss this!
Beyond Our Doors
Youth Epiphany Bonfire
Sunday, January 6th, 4:00 – 6:00 pm
Camp Rockmont

Rising 6th through 12th graders are invited to join for an afternoon of fun.  There will be s’mores, a hot chocolate bar, games, and a chance to join together in community.  In celebration of Epiphany, men’s socks will be collected and donated to the Church of the Advocate.  Also, please feel free to bring a tree to burn.
RSVP by January 3rd by clicking here.
