COCKTAIL & CURATOR'S BREAKFAST
during Art Basel Miami Beach 

LAUNCHES YES CONTEMPORARY ART LOAN PROGRAM
 
 The YES Contemporary Art Loan program, with work from The Mario Cader-Frech Collection, launched on December 3 at a cocktail for 200 guests attending Art Basel Miami Beach. YES council members Adriana Cisneros de Griffin, Carolina Alvarez Mathies and Gabriela Poma, as well as guests from El Museo del Barrio, The Cisneros Foundation, MoMA. Reina Sofia, PAMM, Art Basel, and more, were in attendance.   

On Dec 6, YES hosted a curator's breakfast to present the details of the art loan program. 
Artist Karlos Carcamo, featured as part of the art loan program, joined the breakfast and spoke about his work A Concrete Movement I-V, 2018. Art initiatives represented at the breakfast included 
Tate Britain, The New Museum, New York, The Andy Warhol Museum, SCAD, The Museum of Art + Design in Costa Rica, MoCA LA, The Phillip and Patricia Frost Art Museum, the Wolfsonian-FIU, Florida Atlantic University galleries, Coachella, Shin Gallery, Commonwealth and Council, and ArtSail.

YES WRITERS GRANT

WINNING ARTICLE BY JOSSELINE PINTO
PUBLISHED IN ARTE AL DIA INTERNATIONAL
 
Josseline Pinto's essay titled "Simón Vega and his artifacts of survival: creations from the third world" debuted in the publication Arte al Dia international, YES's 2018 Writer's grant partner, this December.  The article explores how the Salvadoran context provides inspiration as well as a juxtapositional platform for commentary about ideas of "first" and "Third" world, in the work of renowned artist Simón Vega. 

Josseline Pinto is a Guatemala-based arts professional and founder of the space Manifesto-Espacio in Guatemala City. In 2018, she participated in a YES Art Trip. Her article was selected by an independent jury, with support from Susanne Meline and Gabriela Poma.

EL DIARIO DE HOY

The exhibition “Sitios - Desde el reverso de San Salvador” is featured in the printed edition of El Salvador’s main newspaper El Diario de Hoy.  The article includes extracts of interviews with artists participating. The project aims to reactivate abandoned spaces in the city with art that addresses social injustice.

THE QUEVEDOS PODCAST VOTED #1 ON INDIEWIRE’S 50 BEST PODCAST EPISODES OF 2018
“The Quevedos “, a podcast by Salvadoran arts professional Sayre Quevedo, has been selected as #1 on Indiewire’s 50 Best Podcast Episodes of 2018.  The episode narrates the personal story of Sayre and the Quevedo’s family.

R.A. TINOKO SHOWS AT BRAZILIAN EMBASSY IN LONDON
Salvadoran artist and photographer R.A. Tinoko, based in London, England, was a finalist in the 2018 VIA Arts Prize and is now participating in an exhibition at the Brazilian Embassy in London, currently on view until January 31.

Tinoko's work “Layers of Beauty”, questions conventions of beauty, ideals, and the editing of images present in contemporary culture, specifically within the beauty industry.

MELISSA GUEVARA AWARDED LUIS JAVIER CASTRO GRANT 
Melissa Guevara, artist and member of The Fire Theory, has been awarded the Luis Javier Castro Grant, for her participation in the Escuela Flora Program in Bogota in 2019. Guevara was selected by a jury comprising Christian Salablanca, Miguel López, Emiliano Valdés and the curatorial team of Flora. She will be joining artists from various countries in an intensive program of seminars, workshops, group critiques, open studios, field trips, and more.

EL SALVADOR
 
“SITIOS" AT EDIFICIO CRISTO NEGRO, SAN SALVADOR
“Sitios - Desde el reverse de San Salvador” is an exhibition of work by 21 artists at Edificio Cristo Negro, an abandoned building located in the historical center of San Salvador. The project, created by artist Kevin Baltazar, presents temporary artworks which engage and dialogue with the nature of the building and the context of the city.  The event took place on the afternoon of December 15, 2018.

SPANISH CULTURAL CENTER, EL SALVADOR CELEBRATES IT'S TWENTIETH ANNIVERSARY 
The Spanish Cultural Center in El Salvador celebrates it's 20 year anniversary with “Equis Equis”, an exhibition across three spaces - the Museum of Art of El Salvador (MARTE), the Spanish Cultural Center gallery and La Casa Tomada.  The exhibition, curated by Nadie (Javier Ramírez), is a retrospective of the work made at Spanish Cultural Center  in El Salvador since 1998.

“ACTION ART IN EL SALVADOR" TALK AT THE MUSEUM OF ART OF EL SALVADOR
As part of Equis Equis, the talk “Action Art in El Salvador” took place on December 4 at the Museum of Art of El Salvador and featured artists Alexia Miranda and Crack Rodríguez. The talk, moderated by Nadie (Javier Ramírez), reviewed the last 20 years of performance and intervention in El Salvador.

Patricio Majano (1992) is a Salvadoran art professional, who graduated from the Art School at the University of El Salvador. His artwork focuses on the Salvadoran environment and society, and has been exhibited in El Salvador, USA, Guatemala and Spain.
